Need Help Motivating Myself to lose 80 lbs!

Hello everyone! I've wanted to lose weight for some time now, but I just couldn't get motivated to do so. I'm 23 year old female, 5'2, and 217 lbs. I would love to get back to 140 so I can just be healthy again. What kept me from exercising before, and even now, is my asthma. It's really hard for me to force myself to do something that makes me wheeze and burns my lungs :)

I've always had back problems, and now they have gotten far worse. I also recently saw the scale hit 220 and I decided I'm fed up with it and want to lose the weight while I'm young. I've been watching what I eat (not really dieting, just seeing how much I really do eat!) and cutting back on snacks and whatnot. I drink more water instead of sodas. I've started bringing a Smart Ones to work instead of homemade pasta. I walk a few times a week, but it's really relaxed easy walking and only 15 minutes top.

I feel like posting here will motivate me to be a little more serious with getting back into shape. If anyone has any suggestions on how to start being more active, please let me know!

Hello Delvian and welcome :)
I hope we will be able to help and motivate you! Here's a bunch of great peeps that are really fantastic, weightloss became very challenging and fun for me atm :) You'll have ups and downs, but you can do it!

As for your problems - I don't know too much about asthma, but I have a friend who has a bad case of it and says he can go to the gym. It's a bit harder at first, but he says you get used to it.
I have back problems myself. I am a musician, which means I have to stay in an unnatural position for several hours and that is causing a lot of pain, especially in imy lower back. I've visited quite a few physicians, talked to people who have the same problem and they all keep saying the same thing: you HAVE to exercise and strengthen your back and neck muscles, so you give better support to your spine and the cord. That's the simplest and probably the only way. You'll probably have a lot less troubles with the pain, when you loose weight too :)

I suggest you to start a weightloss diary here on the forums, it will help you a lot, also you can expect people to give you a lot of advice and mainly the support you need! :)
Good luck, lot's of love
Az xx

Thank you so much for the welcome! I'm glad to hear your friend can still go to the gym with bad asthma. Mine is mild, but (According to the doctor) exercise induced. I was never much interested in a gym membership, but that helps me not be so nervous about pushing myself harder at home.

I'm a musician too! What do you play? I'm a vocalist, but also know guitar and piano as well. The main strain on my back is my job, a dog groomer. I get to wrestle labs, dogs who are scared of nail trims, etc. That plus all the awkward angles I get to bend at to scissor silly areas. I've been to a chiropractor, and he's been amazing, but my back is still under lots of strain for my weight and work. He has also asked me to drop a few pounds and build up muscle there.

Thanks also for the Weight Loss Diary idea! I'll have to peek around and see how people lay theirs out, and actually set goals and get on track with things :)

I'm glad you'll join the journal army :D
Anyway I'm a classical violinist! What a lovely way we've met, eh? :D Which genre do you play?
Dog groomer? Sounds like a really fun job, I love dogs and animals in general! But I can imagine how stressful it can be for your body :(

The voice is my main instrument, and the piano and guitar really are to just supplement what I'm doing when I can't find a backing track haha. I tend to sing showtunes, disney, country, and some pop and soft rock. I have quite a few covers up online.

I do love grooming! Granted, I get scratched, bit, pooped on, and peed on every day, but I also get puppy kisses and lots of affection so it's totally worth it!

Oh! And I made a Diary! Thank you for the advice!!

Yup, I have a ton of recordings!

I see you're a fellow gamer as well, did you ever play Kingdom Hearts II?

And a little Disney for you too.

There are a ton more on that site in my gallery as well.

You ladies seem like my type of people. I sing and play violin as well! I also play wow, which I'm renewing my subscription here soon, and love my Xbox. Very much a total nerd here. I just got my second tattoo, which has a phrase from Battlestar Galactica in it.

Nerdy musician girls unite!

All of this has happened before...
It's half of an infinity symbol, with the other half being a dragon. I will be getting, "so say we all" at some point. :)
