Need help: Looking for solution to ab muscle pains

Every time I work out, I experience an intense pain from one or both sides of my ab muscles. I've tried ab-specific stretches before, during, and after workouts, but nothing has worked so far. The pain occurs mostly when I jog or do calisthenics. I am not a frequent exerciser, but I'm trying to change that. However, this pain seems to be stopping me from progressing or becoming more fit. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's your ab muscles? Or could it be a stitch in your side? That's the much more common problem.

If it's a cramp or stitch, just be sure to be drinking more water. If you're dehydrated, then this will keep happening all the time.

You need to be sure that it's just the muscle though, and nothing to do with your organs. Check with your doctor if you're concerned.

It could also simply be the fact that you don't exercise frequently and aren't used to it. I lift and rarely do cardio, but if I did run, I would have a stitch in my side in a matter of minutes haha.

Stitch... if it is that is a temporary situation that will go away with regular exercise. It's generally caused when you get to breathing heavy and the intercostal muscles of the ribcage are put under undue stress from the heaving of the lungs and the excessive separation of the ribs. Running and Calestetics will cause you to breath heavy and expand the rib cage excessively if your doing it infrequently.

You need to get a periodized program set up so that you can work your way into regular exercise and if it is indeed stitch then you will not have any issues overcoming this. As far as the dehydration is concerned if your sweating during your exercise then your most likely not really in trouble there as the body will not sweat if you are properly dehydrated. That does not mean tho that you should not be hydrating before and during exercise and replacing all lost weight with water immediately after exercise. The one thing you should really do if you are going to be doing a lot of running is to get yourself a good isotonic sports drink to replenish lost electrolytes during activity and sweating in general. And just so your aware... GATORADE is NOT a good isotonic drink. Get something with no or near zero sugar and very low sodium.
