Need help getting started

Basically I just turned 18 and graduated from high school. I'm a male sitting just shy of 5'11 and I weigh about 170 lbs. I don't really have any issues with my body aside from my gut, which I'd like to get rid of. I understand you can't just target one area and remove it, but thats what it is and right now its my primary motivation. Essentially what I'm looking for is suggestions as far as cardio and other workouts to get myself on the right track for a more healthy and fit long-term future. I'd also like diet suggestions, and hopefully some stuff I can pick up in the store for an easy meal without loading up on bad fats. Right now, to put it simply, I eat anything I want without thinking twice about it, so I imagine my calorie intake is well above what is considered healthy. I'm not necessarily "trying" to lose weight, but if thats a consequence of shaving some of this body fat off and toning my body, then thats good too.
