Need help from the pro's...

My best time to get my exercise in is at 6am. OK...so I get up, have a fruit&grain breakfast bar, grab my water, warm up, then on to my treadmill which is fast walking with some jogging in there as well as a cardio machine I use. Minimum of 30 minutes. After the exercise, it is directly to the shower and getting ready. As soon as I am done getting ready, I make myself breakfast (usually oatmeal or Special K strawberries cereal with skim milk). About that same time is when an overwhelming tiredness hits me. I am not a day-time sleeper. I have to be really sick to sleep during the day. But this is a weird tiredness...I have actually fallen asleep sitting up because the feeling was so overwhelming. It only happens after I have exercised. The feeling can last for hours...sometimes not lightening up until after 2pm. HELP! Is this normal??? Am I doing something wrong??? If it is normal, I am not going to stop my exercise...but if I am doing something wrong, I would love to know so I can fix it. The tiredness is so strong that I seriously feel drugged or something. I have absolutely NO intentions of stopping my exercise, but I could seriously use some solid advise here.

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like you need to speak to your doctor. ASAP.

Exercise shouldn't really do that unless your doing some MAJOR HIIT and/or overexercising.

I was feeling slightly tired from exercise (nothing like you mentioned) and I started taking CoQ10 (natural enzyme found in the body) and it has really helped me feel less fatigued. Still, I don't think it compares to what you're experiencing.

BTW, I am not a pro at all but thought it might be helpful to mention I wouldn't mess around with that.

I should mention also that I don't feel like this WHILE exercising...just about 1 hr or so later. I actually feel quite fine while exercising.

I'm no expert, I am just one of those internet people who thinks I know everything :) (i really don't - I just guess a lot)

Have you ever been diagnosed with any sort of food allergy?

I would get yourself checked out by a doctor and bring with you a list of foods that you've been eating..,

But after that... I'd probably start the morning with protein rather than a fruit and grain bar.. .(f it's the nutrigrain bars, read the ingredients list -there's not a lot healthy on the list.. high doses of processed sugar and not much else)you might want substitute some source of protein...

Special K strawberries has the sameHFCS in it - you might be better off with a high fiber more nutritional cereal... The Kashi Cereals have higher doses of protein....

You're also getting in a heaping dose of exercise on minimal calories and aren't replenshing yourself with all that many calories -

Are you keeping track f your calories in a program l ike what's your daily intake like?

I am not actually tracking my cals, but I have done it before so I know where about I end every day. I am trying to stay around 1600 cals a day. I will write it out the best I can...

Pre-exercise:
140 cals (nutragrain bar)

Post-exercise (breakfast):
175 - 300 cals (depending on whether I have special K or oatmeal with real blueberries in it)

Mid-morning snack (75% of the time I have one)
100 cals

Lunch:
300 - 400 cals (typically a turkey sandwhich on 7 grain bread with some light miracle whip, mustard, and Romaine lettuce)...sometime a light yogurt...or fruit

Mid-afternoon snack:
100 or around there...either a 100 cal pack, yogurt, or 2 squares of 85% cocoa bar (gotta have my chocolate)

Pre-dinner snack (I know this sounds weird, but if I don't have something shortly before dinner, I will blow it because I will be too hungry):
100 cals (usually the 100 cal pack grain crackers because they are easy to eat while cooking)

Dinner:
350 - 500 cals

Optional evening snack:
100 cals

I really try not to go under 1400 cals in day day since I am exercising...but I try not to go up to 1800. My goal is right in the middle at 1600 with wiggle room. If I find myself a bit low for the day, I will add in a snack.

I do get about 1 - 3 cups of coffee in the morning between 9 & 11. I drink mostly water throughout the day and definitely while exercising. I have the option of 1 can of diet Pepsi in the afternoon if I want it.

OK...yeah...the protein thing isn't exactly a strong part of my current diet. I was just looking at ingredients. I really hope it is as simple as that. I don't have time to run out and get the Quaker oatmeal with protein in it right now, so I will plan on a piece of peanut butter grain toast tomorrow before I exersize. Man...PB is loaded with cals! Is it possible to buy that same protein they put in the Quaker Oatmeal and just add it to my own regular oatmeal??? I really like using just the plain oatmeal with only the real blueberries to sweeten it up.

Sure, someone I work with puts their choco protein shake mix in with their oatmeal and just combines the calories in those two for her breakfast. Seems to work for her.

OK...I did the whole PB on 7 grain toast thing this morning before exercise and I seriously feel about 65% better this morning! I still felt a bit of tiredness, but it was more of a 'normal' feeling tiredness than a drugged feeling of tiredness. Looks like protein just might be the key here. THANKS MAL!!!
