Need Chest 13

Ok well I'm 13 and I want to build my chest. I've seen other guys my age who have the kind of chest I want. I workout like everynight......but not strenuously. I do about 20 rep of crunches.....1 set. I want to get some muscle in my abs and I want a chest. I know I'm a little young but I've seen other people like this and I would really work for it....I want it that much. I'm getting a bench in my room in a few days and I have an ab lounge but I still tend to do regular crunches on the ground. Any suggestions??

Errrr, first quick reply.
Anyway as of today I am 14, and I did at one point stress myself to do tons of ab work for around 2 weeks. Doing 500 crunches a day really didn't show too much effect on my abs, but it didn't really hurt either. If you want a chest, I don't suggest a bench at your age. For me I got one doing pressups and chin-ups, my chest isn't massive, but there is some bulk to it.
I'm not an expert in this, so don't trust this information 100% (if at all).

those other guys have genetics giving them those chests. its not typical for a 13 year old boy to have a 'hot body'

i wouldn't do too much heavy weight training right now as you can damage bone growth plates, and that's a permenant problem.

You wont get very good gains at 13, all your calories are going towards grown of bones, organs, and so on. You will get small gains, but don't expect to be huge in a month or 2, it takes a long time...

I was at the lake for a week and I came back and everyone was sayin it looks like I have grown 2 inches. And found out I have. Now I'm about 5'6 or 5'7. I was at the lake so I didn't really concentrate on my abs I was just swimming all the time then I would go to bed at 11:00PM and wake up at 8:00AM........When I got back I noticed my abs and chest were notically developing. I never really noticed them developing until now.....is it because I used to go to bed at like 1-5 in the morning and sleep all day or is that just part of being a teenager?

it's your body developing. try not to stress about what other people look like. you're young and you'll be growing over the next few years in lots of different ways. the people who have those chests that you want are probably just ahead of you in development even tho they are the same age. let your body grow over the next couple of years and if it's not how you like it then you can start worrying about lifting weights. that's my 2 penneth anyway.

growth spurts are exactly why we're telling you not to bother right now. just keep being active so you don't get fat.

I bet you grew an inch and didn't gain a pound, maybe even lost a pound or two. a little less fat on you makes the muscles show through.
especially abs. a lot of us have great abs, buried under just enough fat that you'll never see em.

About the growth thing that is exactly what happened to me. I grew when I was your age from 5.5 to 5.8 and now I am just about 5.10 but my growing has stopped. I am now gaining weight like mad and I am hoping to use it to my advantage.

Dude hit the weights hard bro. I kno most people will say stick to lighter weights and junk but man, theres no difference between bench press, chest press, or push-ups in terms of reasons not to do them at your age. Get a free weight bench press and work within a range from 60-80% of your 1 rep max at a rep range from 6-12. Hit your abs with weights, none of these 20 rep crunches. Fail on your last rep of your last set at a rep range from 8-12 for your abs. However, loading 90-100% of your 1 rep max every workout will not be beneficial at your age and most likely harmful to your body because it will put pressure on your growth plates and possibly damage them, stunting your growth. I suggest you work each body part once weekly. Probably 2 full body workouts a week. Use mostly compound exercises with exceptions such as bicep work and single deltoid (shoulder) work. And I know some people will tell me I'm wrong because you're young but I did it at age 13 and it worked for me and I've seen many others do the same. Don't do any free weight work without 1-2 people assisting you. good luck.
