Okay so im 17 and am 195lbs and only 5' 9''. Im sick of being overweight and I want to lose this weight .I am not expecting this to be a quick thing. I am looking for any advice people could give to me. Anything at all would help and be appreciated.

Hi, there is loads of advice about weight loss here in these forums. Take the time to read through the stickies.
There really is no secret to weight loss. It's a matter of eating healthy less fats, sugars and processed foods and exercising more. It really helps to weigh food where you can and to write down every single thing that you eat or drink.
If you really have no idea about how to lose weight then it might help to join a weight watchers group. I learnt so much at the meetings.
If you have any particular question ask it here and somebody will come in and help you.

Regular exercise is very useful for reduce the weight.I really like this to say you have to give more preference to diet food and the nutrition needed from the that food.Regular routine is very useful with the regular foods and exercise.

Things to do 5-6 days in a week:
1) Go out for jogging/morning walk .This is must.
2) Join GYM or Yoga if you have time. Follow instructions of your instructor.
3) Swim if you can
4) Play any outdoor game if you can

Things to avoid:
1) Sleeping late night
2) High calories and fat, oily foods
3) Over eating

Follow above points regularly and get the results after a month.

Best of luck

Actually, I'd like to change what the previous poster said.

1) Over eating

Yup. The other stuff is good (exercise but you definately don't need to go to any gym for that) but for weight loss, what you eat is much more important. Weight loss comes down to calories in vs calories out. At your weight, your should be (about) eating 2041 a day to maintain. So if you want to lose a pound, aim for around 1500. Do this slow and steady.

First advice? Record everything you eat for one week. Be dead honest. This way you can look and see what can be avoided or what choices can be a better choice. Check out fitday.com for help on calorie counts. We have a nice diary section that you can use to record.

This is more of a "mind trick" suggestion.

Do something to help you lose weight before you do anything else that day. Be it exercising, eating something healthy, or drinking half a liter of water.

Just make sure you start off healthy.

I like this.

To add-on, find something you like to do that is active. It makes exercising something you will look forward to.

Some examples I have seen around here -

Early morning/Late night walks/runs
Wii Fit
DDR
Sports

Good luck OP

Hi, Thanks for this suggestion, I am also new to this and have been reading through the website forums. I always feel guilty in the morning when I don't get up and go for that morning exercise, but starting the day with something that relates to weightloss might help motivate me so that I can go later in the day. After work, etc.

B :)
