Need advice on revised plan.

Well I have pretty much accomplished my first goal which was to lose some weight. As of right now I am down to 185 pounds. I started at 220 pounds. When I started at the gym on December 6th I weighed 215 pounds. So far I have been primarily just doing cardio work and watching what I eat. I am 5' 10" if that matters.

I still want to lose another ten pounds but I am in no big hurry. Right now I primarily want to firm up some. I don't want to bulk up or anything like that. I am a cyclist so I want to stay in shape for cycling, primarily racing mountain bikes. I generally race 2-3 hour races but I am planning a 12 hour race and a 24 hour race this year.

Anyway, now to my question. To reach my goal would I be better off doing cardio work three days a week and lifting two days a week or would I be better off doing cardio work two days a week and lift three days? On the days I lift I still intend on running at least two or three miles on the treadmill.

As of right now I have 19% body fat. I started out close to 23%. I would definately like to get that number down to the low teens.
 
Why are those different goals? I want to firm up and lower by body fat percentage? Aren't those kind of the same goal? Wouldn't losing ten more pounds help reach that goal?

Basicly to just get into better shape. Basicly lose fat, gain muscle but not get big. I see plenty of people at the gym 165 - 175 pound range that are nothing but muscle. That is pretty much what my goal is.

It's hard to be competitive on a bike at 185 pounds.

In order to lose fat and weight, you have to eat less and do more cardio. To gain muscle and "firm up," you have to eat more and lift more. If you want to see results, you really have to choose which goal you'd like to accomplish first.
 
So basicly there is no point in lifting weights while trying to lose weight? If that is the case I guess I will just stick to my 1 1/2 hours of cardio a day.
 
No, no, no! That's not what I was trying to say at all! Lifting weights is super when looking to lose fat because it boosts your metabolism. I was just saying that you're not going to be able to bulk up on muscle while doing a fat-loss plan. It's super-beneficial to lift - but you just can't have two different goals at the same time.
 
Ahhh, gotcha. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

This may be a stupid question but would my chest and arms not become more firm by losing the fat off of them? That way I would become more firm and lose weight? I'm not really trying to bulk up I just want the muscle that I have to be more visible. I have no idea if this makes sense or not.

Maybe lypo is the key. ;)
