Need advice from an NASM certified personal trainer

Hi,

I'm located in California currently studying to be a PT with the NASM, I should be done studying t his week. I have a few questions:

What is the NASM test like? I know I get to take a practice test, but I just want to know what I'm getting into. I know it's very difficult.

Once I pass, do I start applying for PT jobs in the area or do I need some further training?

What is a typical PT job like? I've read that 24 Hr Fitness is a complete nightmare to work for, but I have a few options in my area, including some health clubs and the YMCA.

What is the schedule like, is it possible to have a morning or evening "shift" or are you always "on call"?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey,

I haven't taken an NASM test, but in studying for an ACSM cert, I came across this site, which was helpful for me... Here is a link to the NASM section NASM Personal Trainer Certification - Personal Trainer Community - Forum

I would start talking with different facilities in your area as soon as you can. They will let you know what hours they want you to work and if they want you to do any further certifications or training. Each facility may have a different pay structure and requirements for hours, etc. All you can do is look around and see what you think would suit you best!

Good luck!

Yeah, I found that website before coming here, unfortunately when I try to register I get the message "Sorry, registration has been disabled by the administrator.."

So that's that for now.

Thanks for the advice so far though!

Ah... that's unfortunate. I never actually registered, but just read through the forums and got quite a bit of info. Might be different in the NASM section. Hopefully someone who's gone through the test will post some helpful info here!
