NCSF or ACSM

Can anyone tell me the real differences between these two?

From what I've gathered, ACSM is a little bit tougher and some gyms won't take NCSF certified trainers.

However, I can get the NCSF study materials for free through a friend. So is it that much worse that I should just pay for ACSM?

I've looked on all the sites and I can't tell the difference between what each certification offers really.

Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

I've never actually heard of NCSF... I'm ACSM certified myself, but that is mostly because I deal with chronic disease populations, so that's where I started and will be working up to the Exercise Specialist cert through ACSM. I also have some of the materials for the CSCS exam because the focus is different from the ASCM certs. Just trying to become more well-rounded....

What you choose to do really depends on what populations you plan to work with and what certs your future employers are looking for.

There are hundreds upon hundreds of pt certs out there. I've never heard of NCSF either, and it's probably a red flag that some gyms won't even accept that cert. Stick with the biggies...ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE.

They are more expensive and more exams are more difficult but they are universally accepted by just about everyone.

just my two cents..

I agree with bucky, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, and ACE are the most well-known and recognized certs.... I would recommend sticking with those.
