When you take a nap in the middle of the day is that totally messing with the metabolism momentum you have up to that point? What happens with metabolism when you wake up. Is it ultimately a bad idea to take a mid-day nap?

I'm thinkin' a nap sounds like a lovely idea.

Even if it does have some small effect on metabolism, the mental boost probably does more good than bad.

If you are fortunate enough to get to take a nap, then by golly, take a nap!

Naps are beneficial if they are in 20 minute intervals. Anything longer than that and your body starts going into deeper sleep making you only feel worse when you wake up.
A 20 minute nap will not have that adverse of an effect on your metabolism and as Deschain said sometimes the mental boost is worth any small temporary decrease in metabolism.

Hell yeah.

I've also heard that napping 20 minute intervals won't have adverse effects on your metabolism. I suggest getting a little more sleep at night so you won't have to worry about it.

So about the 20 min intervals. I usually take 10 mins to nod off anyway,
so does that mean I should set my alarm for 30 mins to compensate?

I have always found 45 minutes to be really nice.. set the alarm for 45 minutes... lay down... and wake up refreshed...

sometime with my job I get pressed to meet a deadline and endup working way late and maybe getting 2-3 hours of sleep... and I almost always have some party or family thing I have to go to at 8:00 PM the next day.. so I get home...set the alarm for 45... get and I am really refreshed... for me it is 1 hour... when I cross 1 hour I am sleepy when I get up...

I figure it takes a bit to really nod off... so my 45 timer may actually be closer to a 30 minute nap...

I have a hammok out in the sun. I sleep for about 30 mins then I wake up and go for a swim in the sea :D The joys of living on the beach
