My Weight Loss Journey

Hi there! My name is Amber Roberts, I am 18 years old and I live in Indiana. My goal is to lose 50 pounds in 11 weeks. Yes, I know that is a lot of weight to lose in such a short amount of time. But I am determent to do it. I have done research on it, and I have talked to my doctor about it. And she believes that I can do it. One main reason I want to do it is because I have type 2 diabetes. And if I lose my weight, she said I could get rid of it. I am starting this because I want to have support, and to be able to tell people my progress. I am 5 foot 8 and I weigh 194 pounds. I know that it is a lot, but I believe I can get my weight down. So send me messages, friend me, anything really. I am going to try and post everyday if I can. Thanks ! :D

Hi Amber, glad you came here! yes, losing fat for health is a good reason, in fact, you lower your risk for many other diseases too. One thing about fat loss is that it seldom goes like clockwork, there are usually ups and downs and some trial and errors to get what works for you just right, so, keep that in mind and don't place too tight a time limit on it. Otherwise certainly you can do it.

Welcome to the forum.

I suggest that you ignore that target. I really believe that it is not going to happen if you lose weight in a healthy way. I think that you are setting yourself up for a major disappointment - and major disappointment never helps people in the long run.

I do however think that you can lose a lot of weight in 11 weeks - enough to improve your health.

I do think that you can lose 50 pounds or more.

I do think that you can lose weight in a healthy way.

I know that if people lose weight in an unhealthy way they can damage their bodies which can be very dangerous.

If people lose weight in an unhealthy way they do not really learn the kind of habits that are going to keep them slim and healthy over the long term.

I suspect that you will think that I am not being supportive - but I really do feel for you. I want you to solve this problem and I really believe that removing the 50 pound in 11 weeks target from your head and losing weight by eating in a very healthy way at the right calorie level while exercising will work really well for you.

Think about this - if you lose 30 pounds in 11 weeks and the remaining 20 pounds in another 11 weeks - solving your health issues - should you feel like you have been a success or a failure? I believe that you would have been a success...

I believe that you will be most successful if you celebrate every pound and indeed half pound that you lose along the way and feel proud of every day when you eat healthily and exercise. We tend to do best when we feel good about ourselves.

Eat strictly according to your food plan by all means - but ensure that it is giving you sufficient macro nutrients so that your body works healthily. Use the opportunity to relearn how to build a healthy food plan.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.

I've lost a hundred pounds in a year, and to do that I really had to tax my body. I can't imagine how it would feel to lose 50 pounds in not even 3 months. I really hope you can achieve your goal, though. I sincerely wish you all the best, but please watch yourself and don't overdo it!

I went full blast at my weight loss project (from a much heavier start than you are - which makes things easier than you will find it). I lost 137 pounds in the first year of my project. That is not nearly the rate that you want to lose weight. It averages out at something like 29 pounds every 11 weeks.

Good news! I have lost 16 pounds. I have been exercising and eating right. I am feeling better than I have in awhile. I still have a lot to lose, but I will do it the right way and the pounds should come right off. Any advice on how to tone my body. I already have a lot of muscle, I just want to tone my body and get rid of the extra fat.

Even if you already have a lot of muscle, resistance training is still a good idea to minimize the muscle loss that inevitably goes hand in hand with weight loss. If you do that and continue to do a little cardio and keep eating healthy food, you'll tone your body while simultaneously shedding the pounds you wanna get rid off.

Hi, I'm new too! I really admire your ambition to lose 50 lbs, especially just over the summer. Wish I could say I'd be capable of taking on the same challenge!
