hi,i just started walking on the treadmill for 30 mins for the last 4 days, but i didnt change my diet,by doing so i didnt lose weight,i obsess about the effect of exercise, some say it would be better to stick on a cardio routine, coz it is more beneficial to the heart, but others say if i incorporate light weights to my exercise i will lose weight faster,i am 220 lbs and i really need to lose weight coz my blood pressure is constantly 140/90 and i am only 25 years old.but its just so hard to give up food,my family plays and important role in this because they really love to eat.i was wondering if anyone can give me pointers on what to eat for everyday for starters and how i could resist when i am being urged by family members.i live in las vegas by the way.thank you

Family is a big part of weight loss.

We all have a few in our family. The ones that say
"hey you only live once eat what you want"

But you have to ignore them Cause one part they are right you only live once. But if your not happy with the way you look its no life.

So think about it like this stick to a good healthy sensible diet and dont get down when you see them eating foods you cant cause think of how great your going to feel when you look good and are happy with yourself

So stick with it and visit the forums every day they have helped me amazingly

Hey,

Good on you for starting an exercise regime. Me. I find that really hard! In terms of your family and food maybe explain to them how much this means to your health and happiness and ask them to support you? Often people dont realise they are putting pressure on you to eat the wrong things- telling them can help!!!

Good luck with it!

It sounds like you're gearing up to lose a lot of weight but you're taking small steps and to me that's a great plan. You're getting yourself used to some reasonable exercise like walking and then you're trying to figure out what you can change from there.

Food will have the biggest effect on your weight loss so definitely try to start cutting or substituting here and there. How about starting with the meals you eat on your own without your family. Try to switch those with healthier options, and try to limit the portion sizes of your family meals. Soon you may need to make more changes but that's a good place to start.

You should definitely add weights to your routine once you get things going, as it supposedly burns a lot of fat. Dont keep them too light though or they will have little effect. Don't be afraid to move up in the weights once you are OK with your form. IMHO, you will not have half the success if you dont add in the weights.

Hi there and welcome to the WLF! :D Congrats to you for starting a weight loss journey.

Everyone who has posted has given great advice. (With Blancita, I couldn't agree more about weight training. For the past month, I've upped my weight training and am seeing AWESOME results. The pounds have been dropping off much easier now. -knock on wood- ha!)

I completely know where you're coming from with the family/ food "problem."
In Hawaii, food and family go hand in hand. It's most definitely cultural. From baby showers, birthdays, weddings, etc there are always huge tents filled with food. We call them "luaus." Others call them "buffets," because there's really no limit as to how much you can eat. I know for a fact that's why I was at 225lbs for a big chunk of my life... freaking luaus and my love for good food. hahaa!

The important thing is to create a "game plan." Find out what's for lunch/ dinner. From there you need to choose what you believe would be best to eat from that menu. (ie: more veggies... maybe small portions of this and that instead of just one big plate of each... fish... etc) It's difficult to explain to your family that you're trying to lose weight and that you'd hope they'd help (creating meals that are healthier), especially if they've been doing it for so long. Well good luck with your goals.
