My story, my dreams, my life.

Hello all, I haven't been around these forums very long so to most of you I am unknown. My name is Mitch and I am a 22y.o. aussie bloke. I guess I will use this diary to keep track of myself. This first post will probably contain some information I have posted on other threads, but oh well. My story begins about as long ago as I can remember my weight. In high school I was 100kg at around 15 or 16 but while I had a bit of fat on my I was also fairly built naturally (6'1', large frame, ideal weight probably 85-90kg). I have a very easy time putting on weight, all forms of it.

I took a year off before college, then midday through my first college year (was around 115kg at the time then....) I tore my right ACL. Suddenly I found myself with no active lifestyle but a large calorie intake. 16 months later I find myself weighting 136kg.

The big moment came to me when I could barely walk up a hill. I had gone from playing state level rugby in high school to barely able to walk up a hill. I end up leaving uni to chase my dream job, I want to join the military (I know its a wierd dream but to me its like the perfect career). The problem is how do you join the military, as infantry no less, when you suddenly find yourself obese.

I set myself a goal to reach 90kg. Currently I am at 97kg (omg!!! lighter then I can ever really remember). During this entire process I have been driven by my goal to join the army. Currently I am in the correct BMI range and will be going into Royal Military College, Duntroon in the January intake to train to become a General Service Officer (Infantry). It is a good feeling to know you are so close to your dream.

Heya Mitch! :seeya:

Good move on starting a journal. I only started mine a few days ago, but I wish I had done that back in August when I started this whole weightloss plan.

Man I relate to your situation! Three years ago I was 82kg and in the best shape of my life; I was riding a bicycle to work, going to the gym every night and playing rugby twice a week.

In August it dawned on me that I was 'suddenly' 116kg, lethargic and drinking far to much. I could barely manage a casual walk without puffing for breath. My body had turned to mush and to add insult, i had a pot belly and shamefull man-boobs :( So I Joined this website and lurked. I read a few posts here and there and slowly I began losing weight. Slowly!

In the last several days since making a journal here (starting to be honest with myself) my lifestyle has completely changed. I am back into intense daily exercise and training. I am eating healthy and already losing weight faster and more consistantly.

The people on here are great for support and advice. Some even check in on you (like a personal trainer ;) ) to offer encouragement and make sure you are on track ;)

I think your goal of joining the Armed Forces is a great incentive. Something to aim toward and make you go full out with the program you set yourself.

I wish you the very best and hope to see you make more entries here as you make progress toward the infantry job you want!!!

Yea I to wish I had started something like this when I was at my biggest. I don't even have a picture of me at my biggest weights, the closest I have is like 10kg after I started losing.

Something I have come to realise more and more is that with exercise you need to choose things that you enjoy. Yesterday I ended up doing about 30km of mountain bike riding. I didn't intend to ride that far but I did because I like it (and have a good enough fitness level to do, something I am becoming proud of). On the other end is the day before when I went swimming and only did 40% of the distance in the pool I intended to because I dislike swimming.

I really relate to that. I used to love cycling but the roads around my place are all unsealled and 100kph limits. Pretty dangerous.

I think the trick is to find out what type of exersise you enjoy and stick to that, adding in a little of everything else in moderation. I am really into my treadmill at the moment!

Keep with it mate!!!!
