My progress so far!

When I first began my efforts to lose weight, I was 316 lbs (I am a female, about 5'5"). Of course, that was only a month ago, but after stepping on the scale last night I am pleased to announce that I am down 12 pounds to 304. 5 more pounds and I will be back under 300 THANK GOD because when I realized how much I weighed I felt like crying. I don't have any pictures of myself at 316 but now is as good a time as any to start tracking my weight loss with pictures.

The last is of my roommate (and best friend) and I, she is about the same height and weight as me and is also trying to lose weight.

I'm excited to continue shrinking! Of course, my jeans are starting to fall off now and it's a little annoying but in a good way. I'll probably just buy some scrubs since I can tighten those and I start nursing school in August anyways.

Well done, congratulations, and welcome to the forum :) How are you going about the weight loss (I'm sure myself and others just starting out would love to get tips- conversely, have a look around and see what other people have done, it may help you too)

Counting calories, although I've only loosely been keeping track. I'm trying to keep it around 1500 a day for now. Brisk walks/jogs around the track (one or two miles, depending on how worn out I am after work) about 5 times a week. No liquid calories except for the occasional glass of juice. I'm trying to cut out soda altogether, although I started drinking Coke Zero to wean myself and ended up liking it more than regular soda so unfortunately it's become my new vice. That's about it, nothing unusual or special or magical.

Similar to me then (although I've just started). It doesn't matter if it's fancy, it works. (It's just the science as we know it- calories in/ calories out is what determines weight. I'm not a big believer in magic anyway, it's usually just a fad) Would you consider keeping a food diary here so that others can get ideas from you (and possibly- if it'd help you- keep you accountable and give you encouragement when you need it)? I've set one up with that in mind and would love to follow more people who have a similar plan to me to see if I can steal ideas from them (and conversely, feel free to steal ideas from me as well)

I was a huge soda drinker as well....I would drink regular up to over a 12 pack a day.

Eventually I switched to diet, then I found out it wasn't much better. Supposedly something in diet drinks that isn't good for you (including the high fructore corn syrup) that can actually make you more hungry.

Now I still drink soda, but only when I go out to eat (sometimes0, and occasionally I will go to an international supermarket and buy my favorite soda (one of them) IronBeer from Cuba. Just as good as regular coca cola, if not better. It's 190 calories, and quite alot of sugar in it, but I have it once every 2 weeks. So, I suggest taking baby steps. Switching to diet is good - it'll save you alot of calories.

How many diet cans do you drink a day? For example, if you drink 5 (I'm not saying you do) a day ,then drink 4 a day the next week. Then 3 the next week. Or, if that's too fast, cut down 1 every 2 weeks. Eventually after you don't have the artifical sweeters for awhile it seems TOO sweet. When I drink diet soda now sometimes its hard for me to tell if its diet or regular because its so sweet.

I mostly drink water now.
12 lbs is great! as long as you take baby steps and don't quit until you reach your goal you will reach your goal.

I used to hate vegetables. All veggies. I started liking them by eating jack in the box asian salad (They don't have it anymore, but it was delicious. Far from healthy though), and I would use all the dressing. This got me used to lettuce and greens more. After awhile, I started liking veggies alot more. Then, I started not using dressing at all. I started enjoying the flavor of the veggies raw. Now I may use a little dressing, but I control it. Order the dressing on the side. Its often laden with fat and calories.

I usually get to work early (6am or so) and am jonesing for caffeine so I'll get a 20oz Coke Zero from the vending machine and one of those Fiber One bars with oats and chocolate and that usually holds me over until lunch. Other than that I don't drink too much. If I have a 2 liter at the house I may have another glass that night but I'm trying to get myself to drink a lot more water.
