My Perfect Morning Routine - Do You Have One? Please Share!

I have found that the right morning ritual has DRAMATICALLY increased my focus, energy, health & a lot more.

I’ve listed the exact steps below, in order, for you to implement into your own life and really benefit from a morning routine. Feel free to copy and edit the routine according to your lifestyle.

Your morning routine should be the very first 90 minutes – 120 minutes of the day.

Step 1: Drink ½ Litre Of Water:
This is when your body is most dehydrated, you don’t need food at this point, our bodies need water the most.

Step 2: Clean Teeth:
Brush your teeth, use a tongue scraper, dental floss, mouth wash and use a neti pot. I was handed an article today by my dentist and it mentioned that by flossing daily you can add up to 6 years to your life (see clip of article below).

And for those of you who don’t know what a neti pot is… they are awesome! They may seem a little strange at first but they really clear the nasal passage and help breathing – don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! Check it out Neti pot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Step 3: Exercise:
Find/put together a really good exercise routine. I suggest yoga, some cardio, weights & some natural body resistance exercises. Do what you can to begin with but aim to exercise for 45mins – 1hour.

Step 4: Eat a Healthy Breakfast:
Make sure this is healthy! This will set the standard for the day. Raw natural foods along with supplements are great.

Step 5: Shower & Get Ready:
Pretty self-explanatory. 1 thing to note though; really get ready for the day. Look your best – for me, it just sets up a good day.

Step 6: Read for an hour or two:
I like to read a book about business to really get my head on my work day. I also sometimes throw in an hour of reading about something that I am interested in learning. Whether it’s a specific area of business, an area of health, relationships, motivation, etc. Something that will add to YOUR day.

Step 7: Meditate (no, I’m not a hippy):
5-10 minutes of meditation really focuses me on the day ahead. I am also a big fan of breathing. So, notice your breathe. There are some good breathing exercises to do too. Check out this post by Dr Weil here Breathing: Three Exercises - Dr. Weil for some awesome breathing exercises. My favourite is number 2, and I get the most out of that one.

Step 8: Visualise (no, I’m still not a hippy, I promise!):
Take 5 minutes to visualise getting stuff done and what you are going to achieve today. I also write my “To Do” list here. Concentrate on finishing things.

Step 9: Time To Start Work:
This can depend on the type of job you have. But generally, you should chunk your work into hourly sections.

Some More Tips:

I’ve said it before but stay away from news (especially in your morning routine).

Do the thing that’s causing you the most pain in your life first! I.e. If overweight, exercise first thing. Money, read a business book. You get the idea, just do the thing you want success in your life with first in your morning ritual.

Also, generally look to remove sources of negative stress. Cut them off at the root!

Make the perfect sleeping environment so you get enough high quality sleep.

Plan your meals. Make food up for the next day/few days. Eat small meals every 2 and a ½ to 3 hours.

Keep hydrated. Don’t eat and drink at the same time. Have a ½ litre of water at least an hour after you eat, but no sooner than 30 minutes before.

Take regular short 20 minute naps. After you eat is a good time. Take it in a peaceful, quiet place.

Oh, and stay away from emails until after your rituals – they are distractions and stop you getting things done. Schedule one time in the day to answer emails & phone calls, twice if needed. Or for super bonus points then once a week is even better.

So, what time do you need to leave for work? For most people, to follow this routine, they'd need to wake up at 4:00 AM......
