My Motivation

Hello everybody, I am here because I am overweight. I am ready to start a diet and exercise plan with a fresh new outlook. I have tried several different things in the past, from starvation to diet pills, unfortunately nothing worked. I started going to the gym last year, and I lost just about 40 pounds. I lost my job, had to move further away from the gym, started getting depressed, and put 30 pounds right back on. Now it is time to try again.
My motivation I guess has to come from within, but maybe with the help from this website I can get back on track and reach my desired weight of 125, it is only 57 pounds right? I want to be healthy for my husband and children. I have 3. My oldest so is almost 18, I have a 15 year old daughter with special needs, and my youngest son is 4. I am already borderline diabetic, I want to reverse that. I need to do this I don't like myself anymore. My energy level is way down.
Tomorrow is a new day, and I intend to start right, I went to the grocery store tonight and bought plenty of healthy fruits and vegetable, whole wheat bread and lean meats. I also picked up a new stainless-steel water bottle. I won't get to go to the gym until Thursday, but when I wake up in the morning I have an ipod full of music to dance to, and I think some crunches are also a good start, and I think I also have some dumbbells stashed away.
I hope I will get to know many and make friends because when I am feeling low and I start to feel like giving up again, maybe you can all give me a swift kick or a boost of confidence

day 2

Good morning. I woke up feeling good and motivated this morning, I took care of my face book page, got my house cleaned up, ate a banana with my coffee, fed my kids, now I am going to start with some light stretches, then on to crunches. Tomorrow morning I will be hitting the gym and I guess Fridays will be my weigh in days. I hate to do daily weigh-ins they just discourage me. I have been suffering lately with major head aches so I am going to just take it slow. At lunch time I am having a salad and my activia. For dinner it will be lean pockets. I am about to go in and pre-wrap some healthy snacks and drink a few glasses of water before my work-out. My land lord is coming by sometime this morning to check the plumbing in my bathroom as there seems to be a leak somewhere. It is snowing, I can't wait for spring to come so I can get out and start walking. For anyone who may read this, have a great day and stay active!

Welcome! Given your previous weight loss I am sure you will have success again. :)

And I can't wait for spring too. But I mostly want to get my garden going. I'm not much of a walker, but I am so ready to get some tomatoes planted. We will be impatiently waiting for it together!

So today I felt good, got some exercise in, and ate healthier. Although during the day my menu changed from what I had originally planned it was still decent. Here's how it ended up:

breakfast- 1 medium banana, coffee w/ tsp sugar,

snack- 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese, coffee w/ tsp. sugar,

lunch- peanut butter and jelly on wheat bread,

snack- fat free activia,

dinner- beef stroganoff hamburger helper, coffee w/tsp. sugar, 1 slice wheat bread with butter

ok so not real healthy with the hamburger helper, but healthier because I didn't pile my dinner plate with it as I normally would, I counted calories for the first time and figured it was approximately 1,681 calories, I am not quite sire how many I actually need to lose weight but I guess I will figure that out as I go.

Tomorrow I am going to end up cleaning an apartment (I do that for the complex I live in) so I will probably miss going to the gym, as after I get done with the cleaning, they won't have daycare open. But i will get up early and do some more crunches and I will take my Ipod with me to clean, (and by clean I mean scrubbing walls, and floors and appliances, so it will be a little extra activity) Friday will have to be gym day, and weigh-in day. I am actually looking forward to it though, I know it may be to soon to see results but I still want to see if any progress at all.

One of the bad things about when I lost all the weight before, I threw away all my "fat" clothes and bought smaller sizes, which left me with about 3 pair of pants, 2 T shirts, 2 sweaters, 1 bra, 3 pair of undies, and 1 hoodie. I have to wash clothes a lot more now, and really depending on the weather not much selection. Oh well I will strive for a completely new wardrobe!! lol

I have a lot to lose and have also been here before, lost a lot, had personal and job issues leading to depression and gained it all back. So, here I am also starting over with a new perspective and a whole new set of motivations and goals. I actually listed my motivations and my non-number goals out and that helped a lot. I also realize that crap in life is going to happen regardless of what size pants I wear. Losing weight isn't going to solve those issues in life we have to deal with, but hopefully our new habits will equip us with a healthier way to tackle those things.

So, welcome!!!! You're not alone in this. If you're feeling down, need some motivation, meal ideas, etc. just let me know. The support and encouragement from folks on this site is very helpful and motivating.

There is also a ton of information on this site. You should calculate your BMR (Basil Metabolic Rate) and determine a calorie deficit diet based on your activity level. Tracking everything you eat and making meal plans is a great way and those tools can be found here.
