My Marathon

On May 17, 2009 I registered to walk a half marathon here in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada where I live. I was inspired by my younger brother who recently completed a half marathon and was supposed to run the full Manitoba Marathon last month but had to bow out due to a case of tendonitis. He's now over the tendonitis and runs every morning and is in fabulous shape. I on the other hand have never run and am (was? I'm working on it!) in terrible shape. So in May, at 198lbs, I started training to walk a half marathon with the ultimate goal of weighing 150lbs at the starting line and to be RUNNING the marathon instead of walking.

So fast forward to today, August 3, 2009 and I am now registered in the running, rather than the walking event and my current pace will put me at the finish line in 2 hours 45 minutes. I've lost 28lbs and 10 inches putting me 20lbs away from my marathon goal weight.

I'm a LONG way from my goal, but at least there is light at the end of tunnel. I'm now less concerned with my weight; I just want to cross the finish line. It's such a small thing, but I feel so good when I finish a 5km or 10km run and I can't wait to run the real thing. I have only six more weeks until my half marathon. Wish me luck.
