My Introduction

Hello, just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself.

A week ago I made a conscious effort to eat better and to start being more active. My wife and I had recently bought a new puppy (American Cocker Spaniel) and with the nice weather finally rolling in we've been walking him as much as possible to keep him wore out. :D

That was the kick I needed to get my act together.

Up until a year ago I'd spent most of my adult life around the 210-215 pound mark. Then I quit smoking. Added another 20-25 pounds as a result of that. Managed to eat a little better and brought myself back down to 220ish (give or take).

Last week (March 31) was Day 1 of the new and improved me. I'm walking at least a half hour a day, some days I am running (training for an 8-mile run in September), I'm eating much better (damn, it's hard to eat healthy when you're picky) and tracking what I eat. Lost 5 pounds in the first week!

I've had a gym membership wasting away since November. Perhaps this will also be the catalyst to get me there and stop blowing my money.

So I guess my goal is 170. We'll see how I feel about that goal as the weight comes off, but I feel it's a good place to start.

That's about it! Thanks to the owners/mods for creating such a great place for like minds to gather.

Congrats on making the decision to change youself :) Welcome!

This is a great place, look around, read the stickied threads and if you have questions, ask away...GOOD LUCK!

Welcome aboard.... sounds like you're off to an excellent start.

One thing that stood out to me was your diet. Though you don't get into details, I'm curious about how much you're eating and how strict you're being. You don't want to set up too many hurdles since this needs to be a lifestyle change. And a lifetime is a long time, lol. So you have to set up a plan that you can adhere to consistently for the long run.

Maybe yours is right for you.

I simply wanted to throw something out there for you to consider.

Best to you!

Hello and welcome. Look forward to hearing about your progress. We seem to be about the same size with the same goal weight. Good luck!

welcome! Quitting smoking will definitely shoot your weight up, but I'm glad that you got it back down. You have the right mindset and a forum full of people who want to support and help you!

Thanks! Good luck to you too, Edco. Little by little, eh?

As for my diet, it's not perfect, but I would say overall it's pretty good. An average day would look a bit like:

6:00am Oatmeal w/Splenda and 1 oz blueberries or All Bran Flakes with w/Splenda and 1 oz blueberries, 1 cup of extra-pulp OJ and 0% Yogurt.

~ 450 calories

9:30am Almonds (~0.5 oz), 1 banana, 1 apple

~ 250 calories

11:30am Sandwich (15 g cheese, 1 oz ham, 1 oz roast beef, 2 oz turkey), 1 fruit yogurt cup (100 g), raw blackberries (1 oz)

~ 450 calories

1:30pm Almonds (~0.5oz), 1 banana, 1 apple

~ 250 calories

4:00pm Sandwich (15 g cheese, 1 oz ham, 1 oz roast beef, 2 oz turkey), 2 fruit yogurt cups (200 g), raw strawberries (9 oz)

~ 550 calories

That's ~1900-2000 calories hovering around a 20-40-40 (fat, carb, pro). That's the most stable portion of my day. Dinner varies from day to day but I mind my portions. My upper calorie limit is ~2500 calories according to FitDay (what I use to track my eating).

I list oz and whatnot above only approximately because I've measured a few times and now just eyeball it. I don't have the inclination to measure every little thing that goes into my body but I would say they're relatively accurate. Close enough for jazz, anyway.

How does that look? I don't get home until at least 6:00pm. So I have just enough time for one more meal, 30 min run/walk, shower, bed. So that is only missing dinner which, as I said, varies.
