My interestingly named Journal

I actually registered here a couple of months or more ago, meaning to go on a diet, and of course I never did. Anyway yesterday something happened that spurred me to actually do it. My boyfriend of four years dumped me and, as you can imagine, I feel pretty crap about that.

I also feel motivated though. I don't want to be a blob anymore.. and I believe that I can see this through. I made an emergency appointment with my doctor and asked for a referral to a dietician and for any other help that she could give me, both with losing weight and also dealing with the split. She's made me a referral and says I should hear from them in a few days.

So anyway - this is only day two, but it's a start. Didn't really eat much of anything yesterday as had no appetite but today I've started on a sensible 1200-1300 calorie regime and bought lots of fresh fruit etc.

Thanks for reading.

Still day 2

Just got back from another half hour walk - my second today. It's good exercise I guess and it stops me musing on the breakup. Am actually finding it hard to eat right now which should be good but isn't really. I wish I was three weeks in and not two days :(

Welcome to the forum, I'm pretty new here too. I think its excellent that you are seeing a dietician. I saw my doctor about weightloss recently too and I think that is an important step in beginning a weightloss program. Of course, I work in a dr's office so I'm biased.

Hi and thanks for replying! I am not sure what they can do but it just feels like doing something positive to be seeing someone about this. I am going to join a slimming group as well I think :).

Near the end of day two here (well actually it's not 7pm yet but I think I will get an early night). Just sipping my one gin and slimline tonic that I am permitting myself a night :).

Day three

Just got back from the supermarket where bought lots of fish and natural yoghurt. I walked back which is something I have not done in ages! I live on a hill and, though it's only just over a mile to town, the walk back is a killer and I usually take a bus or taxi. Made myself walk today and though I was hot and sweaty by the time I got back, I did not collapse and die on the way :). Gonna do that every day from now.

Got weighed this morning .. had lost two pounds since Wednesday. I realise that you tend to lose a lot at the beginning and that it's mainly water but it's good to get a boost anyway. If I could lose five lbs in the first week and then steady out at 2 a week, I'd be happy.

major kudos to you -- walking is great exercise and walking up hill is great for the bum :D nice going - a little hot and sweaty never killed anyone :D

nice going on the pounds drop this week :) congrats!

Thanks :) Gonna go out for another walk in half an hour or so I think. It distracts me from thinking about the fact that I just got dumped AND it's good exercise .. so it's all good :)

Legs are hurting a bit tho. Need to start stretching before and aft.

It's Friday which I normally use as an excuse to drink loads of beer and have a take out. Tonight I am gonna have a couple of gin and slim line tonics and a weight watchers chicken curry instead.. total calorie expenditure, about 700. Have had 400 today already so that leaves at least a hundred spare in case I want to snack on anything :)

Day four

Well, am still doing well, had lost another pound those morning but then the scale put it back on at the last moment. Am taking this to mean I've lost HALF a pound :). So two and a half pounds so far. Gonna go me a long walk shortly.

I'm new here, but felt like I had to comment on your diary. I'm also in the UK (though originally from the US), and it's really hard to give up the drinks. I've always been the girl that the guys loved because I could do pints at their pace. And now I'm restricting myself to a glass of wine or so a day.

Last night I had guests over and while they all got a bit trashed on lager, I had three glasses of rose and sipped on a pint glass of water. A bit depressing, but I did end up enjoying them make absolute tits of themselves trying to shuffle a deck of cards...

Good luck!

Hi and welcome! Yeah weekends are hard, especially if you're around others who are drinking .. sigh. I'll just keep on with my spirit and slimline mixer.. it's a treat for the evenings I guess :)

Just had a huge green salad for lunch - lots of lettuce, spring onion etc, with a small amount of cottage cheese and smoked salmon and a drizzle of low fat dressing. I feel really full but it can't have had more than 300 cals at very most .. prolly not even that.

Day 5!! Time doesn't half go slowly when you're making changes in your life tho, LOL. Things here going well! Had my yoghurt for brekkie, big green salad for lunch (with slice of lean beef and spoon of cottage cheese). Will have something small for dinner - maybe a pitta pocket with salad and cottage cheese - and then fruit and a gin and slimline in the evening.

Did my half hour uphill walk as well :)

Good to see you keeping at it! I just started my diet as well (4 or 5 days ago I think...) Good luck to you! I've also noticed that time goes quite slowly when you are on a diet. I figure after a couple weeks it will all become normal though :D.

1. Hello :)

2. Sorry about the break-up. At least it prompted you to take action wrt your weight.

3. Your cals seem a bit low assuming you aren't 100 lbs.

Nearly bed time. Have done well today, lots of exercise, 1000 or so cals.

Can't believe how slowly the time is going tho :(

Day seven and I've lost another two pounds! That makes five in just under a week :). I know that I won't sustain this level of loss and that first weeks always do go fast but it's great to get a boost like that.

Only another 80 or so to go.. sigh.
