My dreams can become reality

Hello all, Doll here.

I saw this forum, and I was immiediately drawn in to the supportive and positive atmosphere here. That's why I have decided to make my journey on here. I have no friends who will support me because either:
A) They are too lazy and don't care if they are out of shape.
B) They don't need to work out and have no intention to.

Let's start off with an introduction I suppose! I am a senior in High School. I love to sing, and get involved with musicals as well as art. So basically anything, that's not a sport ;)

I am 5'8 female (I hope the gender was slightly obvious) and weigh 187 pounds at the moment. My goal weight would be 155, a loss of 30 pounds.

There have been many struggles throughout my life. My dad passed away when I was 7 years old. It's been hard, but I've lived on. The reason I put this in here is not for a pity party, but instead to give me motivation. I believe I am a very strong individual, and I do not want to put this hard will and determination I've grown throughout the years to go to waste. I want to not only do this for myself, but for my dad who I know would be proud. He would have been constantly getting me into shape, he was a coach and a big sports fan. This is why I want to do it for him as well.

My main struggle right now, is my thyroid. After many months, I was finally diagnosed with hypothyroid (meaning a low thyroid.) I am medicated, but my doctor said no matter how much I try, weight loss will always be a struggle for me. It will always be harder than what others already need to go through, and hearing this was incredibly discouraging. We all know weight loss is so hard, and time-consuming anyway...but to make it even harder yeesh!

Anyways, the thyroid thing will be a struggle. However, I have decided that this will NOT be an excuse. I will lose these pounds no matter what.

My goals are the following:

-To look good in a dress!
-To feel and look great for my musical in 2 months.
I'm Rizzo in the musical Grease and I'm so excited! I want to do my best to lose around 15 pounds by March 2011. I think it will be a great difference.
-To develop a healthy lifestyle for college
-To have the look for when I audition and make performing a career

In order to do what I want to do, I need to feel comfortable and look fierce ;) Not only will this weight loss help my dreams become a step closer, but it will also improve my overall health. Two birds, one stone!

I have been off and on trying to lose weight forever! Thanks to my thyroid, I'd actually gain weight constantly. Now that I'm medicated, I'm finally back to normal, but it won't be easy. I'm a healthy eater (says a dietician) but my exercising it thoroughly lacking. I hate it too...I can't stand it. I'm hoping HIIT, and cardio dancing will help me get with it a bit more, but I can't be sure. Hopefully you guys have suggestions?

I talked a lot, I'm hoping this isn't too much typing for you guys. I'd feel bad if most of you stopped reading halfway through ;)

Thanks for your support in advance, I know this will go well!
Love, Doll

I just read the whole thing and I am very moved. You sound like a strong person and I sincerely wish you the best. Unlike others, you've realized at a young age that you have the power to be the best person you can be.
We are here to support you because we know that you can do it.

Good luck with your goals.

I'm a big musical enthusiast too. Grease is awesome and Rizzo is definitely the best part - so much more scope than Sandy. I'd love to do Grease at my school (I'm a drama/English teacher, not a pupil) but we only teach up to 13 years old so it's not very 'appropriate' - yawn. We're doing South Pacific this term (with a whole lot of swearing and underage sex written out of the plot completely!)

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Mine died too, 2 years ago. I was 23 not 7 so I can't begin to imagine what you've gone through but I kind of get the emptiness of not having one around now if that makes any sense.

Hope to see you around anyway

Haha I agree, I think Rizzo has such personality! :) Oh, South Pacific is great as well, but the roughness of the script made it what it is today. Too bad you need to edit everything out, that's a lot of work! Well my High School, will also do much editing that's for sure.

Miss Doll

A quick note. I had a thyroid issue a few years back. With medication at the time it was brought under control and it settled back into a sensible pattern. The medication stopped years ago, I cannot even remember when because it is a distant memory. My thyroid has been fine ever since. I hope this gives you comfort that this can be overcome.

Also, I love your goals. Well done to you for taking this mental approach on the path to achieving your ideal weight. I wish you every success.
