My Diet

ok so i was wondering how my diet looks to others. i am trying to slim down for the summer so i can do more fun things w/o thinking ppl are staring at me etc. so i started working out for about 1.3 hrs a day on muscle work, 30 min doing running, and another 40-50 min doing basketball, football, etc. i then narrowed down my diet to something like this,

Breakfast= Cereal, usually Honey Bunches of Oats, or Rice Krispies, and some Orange Juice

Lunch= Yogurt, 100% Apple Juice (cut out soda's), Applesauce, Carrots, and Special K Bar

Dinner= Some sort of meat, usually beef, chicken, or fish, a large portion of vegetables, water, and some bread or potatoes, etc.

i sometimes have a snack thats either a protien bar, or canned fruits

is this healthy enough for me? BTW im sticking for low-fat, higher carb diet

you should add 2 or 3 more meals in there, to keep your metabolism at maximum all day you need 5 to 6 meals a day.

also you shouldnt work out every day, your muscles can only grow while there resting, muscles need calories just to excist so having lots of muscle burns more calories.

and dont do any high carb, low fat diets they are all scams, jsut eat healthy and get all your food groups and keep up the cardio and weight training, and you will get the results your looking for.

and if your looking for a ltitle boost of protein try getting a whey protein powder and have it after you work out, that way you will have the fuel for your muscles and they wont catabolize(break down)

I'll go with Grammaton on what he said. Here's what I would change about your selections though

Breakfast-oatmeal, 1/4 cup blueberries, banana, 3 eggwhites, cup of milk
lunch-carrots, apple (not juice), cottage cheese, 1/4 cup walnuts, spinach
dinner-looks pretty good, I'd skip the bread myself

I'd have cottage cheese again before bed and two snacks or mrps. Try and shoot for 10 servings of fruits and veggies daily. Throw in some fish oil and flax meal and a multi vitamin. I would totally skip the canned fruit and go with fresh fruit or you can get a couple bags of those frozen fruit and thaw a couple servings out the night before.

Yeah them kind of diets are crap. If your eating way more calories then you burn then your body's going to store the extra calories as fat.

ok so if i were to eat some sort of fruit or cottage cheese at around 3 and something else before bed, itll b better?

and evolution, since thats a little too much breakfast for me, what would u take out?

EDIT: and what are mrps?

I heard cottage cheese is good before you go to bed. mrp's are meal replacement powders they have everything you need for a really good meal most of the time better then what you could eat cause you would half to have like chicken and a baked potatoe and all kinds of stuff to equal whats in one of them. Basically there a packet that you mix with milk or water i mix mine with water i bought some MET-rx extreme chocholate mrps and it tastes really good better then a shake, Plus it has 38 grams of protein in each one.

I would prob skip the eggwhites and maybe add a bit of protein powder to the oatmeal.

I would eat cottage cheese and fruit at 3 and you should have something else between that meal and your pre sleep time meal.

yup i found some soy vanilla protien powder in the drawer, it came from trader joes. hmm maybe my wife bought it, becuase i have no recollection of buying it.

heh, ill get some whey protein next time and try it out. i have a GNC about .4 miles away from my house :)

i also may try some of that met-rx stuff, looks pretty good.

so this is my revised diet:

Oatmeal, Banana, some sort of berries and protein powder with oatmeal, and some milk (maybe a multi-vitamin, suggestions?)

Carrots, Yogurt, Apple, Nuts, and Water

Cottage Cheese and fruit at ~3

Meat, vegies, and water

Cottage Cheese b4 bed

the best thing you can do for a multi vitamin, is go to a health food or vitamin store and ask them whats best for your age, your goals, and your weight.

by the way your diets looking better.

ok i ate some oatmeal today with that protein powder, apples, and a little brown sugar. it was sort of disgusting, that powder makes it taste bad. hope its a developed taste :(

That dietary intake looks much better. You can always mix the protein powder in with your milk rather than the oatmeal or buy some Anywhey by ON, it's vitually tasteless and won't cloud up the taste of your food.

Grammaton has it right about the health food store. As far as multi's go, I really like a whole food multi. Rainbow light, Garden of Life, Twinlab (I'm partial to them because I'm a buyer for their company), and Nature's Plus are all really good companies.

Right now I'm doing a Rainbow Light multi and a Nature's Plus Ultra Juice multinutrient supplement and I can't leave out the Carlson's fish oil.

what is fish oil? what does it do for your body?

also im going to be posting a log of what i do and eat. please post constructive critisizm of how im doing
