weekends are whatever, but under 1500 cal and i tried to keep everything around 1500 cal. i wanna keep myself full and keep in mind this is just to start me off. I workout at curves 3 times a week and other than that, my job is a lot of lifting, walking, standing, beer orders and stuff. so i tend to be really active at work (i sweat a little)
anyway, what do you think? anything i should take out or leave in?

I don't know how big you are height and weight. I suspect you will go hungry on this diet. And the reason is because the calories are high for the amount of food you are eating. But its also hard to say because you don't provide quantities and you don't detail the contents of your frozen meals and such. And i don't know what this packaged food is. We don't have this stuff in Australia.

As you don't like fruit and vegetables, this will also make it more difficult for you to sustain. Why not join our vegie cooking club in the club section and try some more interesting foods. Perhaps you don't like vegetables because they are always made in a boring way. Like just steamed. I am not a big fan of steamed vegetables either. I will eat them though but most of the time my vegetables are much more interesting.

And i love fruit.

Nuts and peanut butter are high in fat.

But anyway start of with what you've got there and try improve your meals as you go along so they are both more healthy and more satisfying.

I'd also suggest copying this all and moving it over to the diary section. Or maybe ask Korrie to move your thread for you to the right section. I made the same mistake as you.

I would also plan your weekend meals because you are liable to end up eating all the rubbish you usually eat and pretty soon you won't want to be on a diet. Particularly when you don't see any action on the scales.

I think 1500 sounds fine but its what makes up those 1500 that will make or break your diet.

okay, thank you! should i just delete this thread then? sorry about that.
yeah, i have a very busy schedule so i just tried to plan out what i have for now, and i'm planning on going shopping in a week when i have more money! my dinners will consist of a lot of vegetables so that's when i plan on eating the most of them. but i just left dinners open cause it could change.
also i measured everything out, they're pretty good portions for being under 1500, but i am 20 year old girl and i am 5'6"

I figured for when i get started i tried to pick out the foods i would actually enjoy eating for now, but which is still better than what i usually get which is fast food because of my work schedule. unfortunately i eat a lot of fast food and that's probably the main reason i gained weight.

You're fine to have a thread here :) Maybe you can start one in the diary section to log your daily foods/exercise and stuff as well as you're asking for feedback in this one but diaries are more personal thoughts with encouragement from others!

:) i just made one! I was reading through others and i loved all the support everyone was getting.

I definitely agree with working with what you like. It's a shame you don't like fruit and veg, maybe you should try making them in different ways and see if you find something that works for you (either Fortyfour's suggestion or other ways of cooking vegetables into dinner- perhaps also try some tomato on your cottage cheese and bread if you can handle it, although try vine-ripened tomato if you find regular tomato too bland). Although you need them for nutrition, if you're not going to stick to a diet because you're eating food that you hate, then it's counterproductive.

All in all a very good start though.

thanks for the great reply!
i think because i hate vege's i tried to put in a v8 drink every night after im off work (thats when im most hungry and tend to wanna drive to a fast food place)
I also take a multi-vitamin twice a day, especially after my workout and one in the morning with breakfast
but yes, i agree with you. i've tried dieting MANY times before and i always quit because i hate what i'm eating and i get frusterated and mad that i can't just enjoy what i'm eating.
when summer comes thats when my favorite fruits come out for cheap (watermelon, mango, pinnapple)

I live in a city in canada, and unfortunately we only have about 3 months of summer. 2 weeks of spring, 2 weeks of fall and the rest is gloomy cold winter! and everyone gets depressed and never leaves the house and that's unfortunately why i started on this unhealthy diet. because fast food seemed to make me happy, even if it was only for the time i was eating it.

Hi again. No don't delete the thread.

Ah so you do like fruit! What fruit don't you like?

Yes, i think the V8 drink probably sounds like a good idea straight after work if it will get you home without temptation. Its good you have identified your danger points and thought of how to prevent getting snagged by it.

Do you like natural yoghurt. I think you might need a bit more dairy for a higher calcium intake. Its quite good on vegetables too. And you can garlic to make it extra tasty. That's the greek tzatziki. But just check there's no added cream in the version you buy. They are getting sneaky these yoghurt makers. I think in can only find one brand of natural yoghurt that hasn't got it in my supermarket shelves. Most of it is fruit (which of course has added sugar), low fat with fruit, low fat or added fat.

Yes, that's a good idea. One of my favourite desserts on my new diet is low fat Greek yoghurt with a little honey and some steamed fruit (apple, plum), and some frozen berries. It's worth a go and will give you protein to keep you full, as well as dairy and some fruit. (The way I make it it comes to at most 260 calories)

thank you SO much for the suggestion.
is tzatziki really bad for you? i love it so so so much...

as for fruit, i think it's the fact that it's usually cold. my favorite foods are cheesy, melty things. like pasta with alfredo sauce and baked cheese on top.
or donair. stuff like that.
where as fruit is cold and hard - most the time lol. i dont like apples, the oranges have to be reaaallly sweet for me to eat them. banana's i dont mind but the texture is hard for me to swallow after awhile. i enjoy really sweet fruits but they're hard to come by most of the time of year in my city.

as for vegetables, i like broccoli and brussle sprouts and asparagus. but usually only like them steamed.

i HATE tomato's. i dont like carrots. basically dislike every other veg.

just basically nothing really attracts me to the thought of fruit. like i dont sit there and think "man, i would love an apple right now" because i would rather have somethings warm and melty... lol
thank you guys for your suggestions! everything helps, and i will be sure to take your advice.

You've already said you do like some fruit. Yeah i understand about not liking cold things if you live in a cold climate.

I only suggest fruit because its easy to eat. Stick with vegetables then.

Do you like the way vegetables are done in indian food. Most of the time you can't even know what you are eating. Maybe you could learn to cook some low fat versions of their vegie dishes.

Also what about trying stir fries.

No tzakiki is not bad for you if you make it yourself but i don't know what's in it if you buy it already made up. Check label for the ingredients and don't buy if its got anything other than yoghurt and garlic. Or cucumber. IT shouldn't have oil added or salt or any other rubbish.

All taht cheesy melty stuff is no good maintain a low weight or trying to achieve one. You need to learn to eat less cheese. Its just so high in fat.

Its a real pity you don't like tomatoes as tomato based pasta sauces are one of the best options for low fat sauces for pasta and meat dishes.

Also try to learn thai and chinese cooking. Or japanese. These dishes are usually low fat so long as you keep away from all the pork. Head for the seafood and vegetable dishes. Noodles are fine. Also beware of eating too much coconut milk. Go for the clear stocks if are eating some sort of soup.

This way you can combine some meat with lots of vegetables. And its good food. Yummy and healthy. So long as you do'nt put too much soy sauce on because of its high salt level. But i've found you don't need much soy at all really.

Definitely avoid deep fried foods too.

Do you chinese yum cha? I like their steamed vegetable dumplings. Of course you will need to exercise restraint here too.

I think you can learn to like other foods. Its probably got to do with the way you've always had them served. But our palates are quite flexible. Once you give up all that melty stuff your taste buds will start to become more receptive to other flavours, in my opinion. Try to keep an open mind.

yes i hear ya :)
i know i have to cut out the yummy delicious melty stuff. it's a weakness!
i will definitely keep in mind what you said when i go shopping

I was thinking about this in the shower today. You know you could keep one serve of cheese a day if you so eager to keep it in your diet. Somewhere i read that two slices of cheese equals one serve. I think that's about 70g of cheese.

So you could have toasted cheese and tomato with that. yes it doesn't mean that the cheese won't be high in fat still but, you know, if cheese and tomato on toast would do you breakfast or lunch, then why not have it. If it were me, though i'd probably need more than that to fill me up so i'd add a green salad with no oil in the dressing. Just put some lemon juice or vinegar on it. You could put letttuce, cucumber, bean sprouts, grated carrot in your salad. This would help you fill up. YOu can eat as much as you like of this sort of food in most diets because its good for you and so low in calories.

Have you thought about frozen fruit (or vegetables, for that matter)? Less problems with seasonal variation- they may not taste quite as nice (then again, they might taste better because they're effectively fresher because they were frozen close to where they were picked), but they also might be cheaper and you might get the kind of fruit you want at other times of year. I have frozen berries a lot (every day), which are a lot cheaper than fresh. Have you tried steaming apple? (cut it up into bits, remove the core, put it in a microwave safe container and microwave for up to 2 minutes) I find this makes the apple taste sweeter (which is why I do it when I make my Greek yoghurt based desserts).

On what's bad for you and good for you, if you have a plan you can more or less decide that by reading nutritional labels (for me, it's mostly about the calories after I think about what I want for my nutrition). At least try low fat versions of things (if the sugar or salt content isn't too high) and see if you like them- I save myself a few calories by going low fat dairy.

what i did substitute for my cheese addiction is "laughing cow cheese"
i dont know if you've heard of it, but it is absolutely delicious and SO low fat. 1 piece spreads all over a slice of toast and it is only 20 cal. it almost tastes like cream cheese but way better

i've tried apples like you said, and it is rather tasty. i'll be sure to try that! as for frozen fruits, i have yet to try it, but i'll make sure to give it a look.
i need to start writing down all the suggestions you guys are giving me! :)

Another fruity idea that might work for you is to stew the fruit. Stewed apple is delicious. I don't even add sugar to it. If you do add sugar to any stewed fruit you make, don't add too much. And it goes so yummy with yoghurt.

Stewed plums, apricots, peaches, rhubarb, pears. The list is endless. You can heat it up in the microwave if you want to eat it hot.

You can also bake your apples. Again, good a spoon of yoghurt.

With regard to strawberries, i like them best when i put them in the freezer and eat them after defrosting. Freezing seems to break down some of the fibres and go more juicy and sweet afterwards.
