My diary of a second try.

Well I was a skinny child, sickly even, until hitting the age of about 9-10, then I suddenly doubled my weight in no time. I peaked at about 13 weighing in at around 250lbs(possibly much more though) and only 4'3" tall. I continued to stay plump but around the age of 17 I finally thinned out a little because I was heavy into drugs and my friends and I walked all over town all day, so I got plenty of exercise.

Now here I am at 25, just got married a few months back, and you know how good that is for a diet, lol. Well about 2 years ago I dropped from 279lbs to 201lbs in only a few months with very strict diet and exercise, but then at about 201 I just couldn't lose anymore, the holiday season hit and I went back to my old habits. Well over those 2 years I've managed to get back up to about 235 or so (currently 230).

So here I go again, I'm going to do it no matter what it takes, but this time I'm not shooting for 190lbs like I was before. Since I'm starting from a lower weight this time I'm shooting for 170lbs or possibly even lower since I'm supposed to weigh 144lbs (although I think that's way too little for me, I have a large frame).

DAY 1 (9-7-06)
Day went by very easily, I stayed busy and little to no hunger pains. I ate sparingly and didn't get a chance to exercise, but did try to stay active.

DAY 2 (9-8-06)
Feeling the hunger pains much more today, I know from experience that this will take a few days to a couple of weeks to pass and seems to get worse every day until it finally goes away. I'm going to try to up my diet today by eating even less and trying to exercise for at least a little while. It's tomorrow that I'm worried about though, some friends are comming in from out of town and they usually eat tons of tacos, nachos, brownies, ice cream, cheeseburgers, and such...

My own formulation. No sugar, very little carbs, and I try to keep my calorie intake at between 500-1000 a day. On top of that I take Chromium Picolinate, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Green Tea supplements as well as drink green tea during the day. I also try to make sure that any food I have (mostly protein) has a decent amount of spice in it. I also flush my body with lots of water everyday. To top off the cake I try to exercise at least a little and make myself do more active things during the day.

Wow no sugar, I don't think I could do that! I have heard very good things about green tea, though I need to have honey it.

Have a good day!

I just do green tea with Equal to sweeten it up, tastes pretty good. And as for the sugar thing I do have a little sugar here and there, but I do try to avoid it whenever possible. And I do let myself eat stuff like icecream, cheesecake, candy, etc... but in VERY VERY small amounts. Like I just taste it instead of fixing myself some, I'll just have a few spoonfuls then throw the dirty spoon in the sink and walk away, lol.

Hi Mike,
Welcome to your diary.

Have you thought about why you gained the weight back after being on a very strict diet?

I know for me, that if I were to go on such a strict diet, I would NOT be able to make it a life style change. It would NOT be about changing my outlook on food and proportions. IT would be about denial, which would bring the cycle of failure and weight gain when I went "off".

You mentioned that before, while on a strict diet, you reached a point and couldn't go under that weight...were you doing what you're doing now?

When a body feels that it isn't getting enough calories, it will shut down, go into starvation mode and no longer burn calories efficiently. You also run the risk of losing muscle (which burns calories) by eating too few.

There are people who have been here that are on a very low calorie diet, some while in doctor care, and some who simply educated themselves on what to eat with what, etc.

Remember, your heart is a muscle. How much muscle is worth being risked?

I wish you much success in reaching your goals, I just hope you have or will look into the ramifications of a very low calorie diet over a sustained weight loss.

Take care, and again, welcome to the WLF

Well unfortunately slow weight loss just does not work for me. If I can't get on the scale at least every other day and see a difference I just lose hope and start eating again. So like before I'm going to go at it fiercely until I hit 200lbs. Then from 200 to 170 I will be a little more responsible about how I lose the weight, but these first 30lbs will be the real test.

As for why I gained it back, well I think I did pretty good, it took nearly two years to gain back 30lbs, and I don't know about the rest of you but I have the ability to gain 30lbs in like two weeks, lol.

I'm strange, I can lose a pound a day when I'm dieting, but I can gain 3 a day when I'm eating too much.

Mike,
Losing weight is not about immediate results or about vanity.

It is about health. Getting healthy if used as the primary goal, will bring about weightloss as a secondary result.

We would all love to have this over in a blink...however, doing it the way you're doing it is not safe or healthy for the body.

Your body *AT REST* requires closer to 1400 calories. That's to feed your brain, your heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, circulatory system. Reproductive system....

If you deny your body the fuel it needs to function - the rest of your body is compromised.

Do you want to burn calories efficiently? or Do you want your metabolism to shut down and not burn calories efficiently? Your body will not live off of the "fat of the land" it will live off of muscle and you will burn no calories brought in.

I hope you would start educating yourself about long term health and the ramifications of a 500 c/day diet.

Good Luck

hey MIke ,

Welcome and goodluck to ya! I am doing a low calorie
diet also but I try to get atleast 1000 calories and I think anything
under that , you eventually will get week or binge! I know a 1000
is supposley low to but I am eating 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day!
I just watch my calories and fat intake.I don't see how people do
the calories fat sugar carbs my as well just live off lettuce lol!
I hope everything works for ya good luck TAMMY:)

Mike,
I'm glad to see you're considering increasing it - definitely get educated about what your body needs and the ramifications of not getting it.

It's not always as simple as just stating a number and sticking to it. It has to be something you can live with.

If you don't want to have to relose the same weight that is.

Best of luck to you,
