My Body is a temple

I am 53 and am going thru the body changes that most women do at this age - blah...I have always been focused on how to eat healthy meals especially when I was raising my two grown sons who are now grown up and have families. I do want to be around for a long long time so I can be here for my family especially my 3 granddaughters. I usually gain weight in the winter months (7 to 10 lbs or so) and I have high cholesterol that I have been given medication for but I am not taking it. I know plenty about eatting whole grains, lots of veggies, low carbs, low sugar, proteins and that if you increase your activity levels to burn calories it will help you lose weight. I am a stress eater and I have a very stressful job and last year was the worst for me with stress at work. I gained more than 15 lbs because of this and I want to lose it all and get more fit so I can become as healthy as I should be. I am currently eatting a 1400 calorie diet a day and working out for at least 30 mins each day - aerobics, interval training, strength training with resistance bands. I want to lose this weight and make this a lifestyle change not just to lose this weight temporarily. I know I can do this as I have before but I was alot younger and so far I have not seen any results and I have been at it for 2 1/2 weeks, I will keep on keeping on and keep my eye on the goal to make this a lifestyle change because I know that my body is a temple and I want to exercise my body, mind and spirit.

Deb, why aren't you taking the cholesterol medication? You know that some people have high cholesterol regardless of what they eat. My father's girlfriend is in this group. I urge you to reconsider.

Your post also reminds me of an indian friend i have who's husband has high blood pressure. He refuses to take his medication because he think yoga and swimming can cure it. His wife worries and I find it concerning too as we had a family friend who got early dementia and died of small strokes in is brain which was brought on by his high blood pressure.

The body makes cholesterol. Its not all from what you eat. Maybe you body is too good at making it. But anyway if you doctor thinks you should take it, don't think its a good idea. Especially since you want to be around for a long time.

Welcome Deb Rose!!! It's good to have you join us. It sounds like you are off to a good start. I am glad that you want this to become a new way of life for you and not just a quick fix. It can take some time to see results -do get too discouraged just yet. Sometimes the scale doesn't move for me for a while and then all of a sudden it drops -I find that taking my measurements helps me feel like I am progressing even if the scale says I am not.
I agree with fourtyfour - if you were prescribed medication, you should consider taking it. You may be able to go off it once you are healthier (in consultation with your doc).
Good luck with everything. You have come to a great place for motivation and support!
