My biggest temptation is coming soon...

So far i have avoided eating out at my favorite restaurant but it's seems unavoidable this weekend seeing as my parents are taking me there for Sunday dinner. They love it and I don't wanna keep them from going so my question is how do I keep from eating something that is gonna slow my progress? Its a place called Ryan's and they have an all you can eat buffet with anything from A-Z. They have a salad bar so I guess I could stick to a salad and maybe a light dessert(they have the best dessert table). But my salads aren't very healthy I don't think. They usually consist of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, boiled egg, ham, turkey, bacon bits, cheese, and thousand island dressing. Any ideas on this? I just really don't wanna blow my diet to smithereens but I don't wanna keep my parents from going either. Wish i was like my mom, she is thin and very pretty and can eat anything she wants without gaining a pound! I see food and gain lol. Thanks for any help.

cheating once in a while on your diet will not blow it to smithereens. just try make sure you do it very rarely, and only allow yourself to cheat on one meal (as opposed to a whole day). you may notice a weight increase on the scale the next day but this mostly happens because by eating more on that day you also increased your sodium intake and thus are retaining a bit more water then usual - this is not an increase in FAT in other words so dont panic. go out, have fun, eat what you would like (but dont go crazy overboard either), and get back on track as soon as your next meal comes around.

Its a lifestyle change. These things will happen. Don't sweat it. Have a good time and enjoy yourself. 1 meal will not kill you and likely will not effect your weight loss at all. Be sensible. Order something you will enjoy but not insane. Get the 6 oz filet instead of the 24 oz porter. Dont "load" the baked potato or order steamed veggies. No reason a better life cant still include a family meal. You think I don't occasionally have pizza or ice cream with my children? I'm sorry but those kind of things are more important to me than going 500 calories above my goal for 1 day out of what I hope to thousands to come.

I agree!! One meal won't hurt! So enjoy it!

Also a tip on the salad. Instead of pouring the dressing directly onto it, get a little bowl to put it in then dip your fork into it then into your salad... You will get dressing with every bite, but use ALOT less and still be satisfied!

Cheers!

Thank you so much for the advice, I am just going to enjoy the family dinner with my kids and parents and you're right 1 meal won't kill me. Its more important to enjoy the occasional meal with the family than skip out on a good time or not eat and have everyone fuss over how little I eat. I will enjoy my Sunday dinner and not worry about the scale the next day. My workout video will kick my butt the next morning anyways lol. Thanks again!

One thing to keep in mind with buffets -use it to sample new stuff - stuff out o f hte orindary -if youcan have it every day and accessilbe everywhere (ie chocolate chip cookies) then pass on it... and use the buffet to expand your culinary horizons...

One meal isnot going to undo the work you've done so far...
