My before and after... from couch slob to a half marathoner.

Ok I hope this works...
I am 23 years old and was never the slim one in the class. I was always at the back of the pack when it came to sports. I suffer from asthema and have a disk in my back that keeps herniating but I thought it was about time I did something and got off my backside and stopped using my aches and pains to hide behind.

So October 2006 I decided enough was enough and singed myself up for a half marathon... My weightloss of 18lbs (and counting) is a result of regular exercise and no dieting (in fact I probably eat MORE now, just the right foods instead)

This Sunday (Feb 25th 2007) is the day of my 1/2 marathon (please think of me)

I know my weighloss is nothing compared to others out there, but the mental struggle has been the same. I hope to one day become an inspiration to somebody and perhaps give them the courage to step out and complete something that was never thought possible of them.

You don't have to wait for some day to become an inspiration... You are already one... :)... great job... exercise and no dieting is my wish...

Howdy way to go on your progress! I take every pound as meaning alot
no matter if you have to lose 100 lbs or 10 lbs it's all hard work and honestly
I think the last bit of weight will be actually physically the hardest to lose.
Congrats Tammy

you look great- best wishes on your half marathon! Dont ever let anyone make you think that your accomplishments are any less great as anyone elses! No matter how much anyone has to lose- its hard for anybody! I'm very proud of you!

Wow thank you guys.. That means so much to me. No one (apart from my boyfriend) has ever commented or congratulated me on my progress.

Now I feel like I can run 5 marathons :)

Thats just from Running, I never even knew I had them .. they must have been hiding lol.

I am yet to start a weight lifting/strength program. I would like to, as it will improve my running form. However I'm a bit reluctant with my back. We'll see.

Thanks again to everyoe who has commented. You have really made my week.

Hey CanadaCat, are you from the Toronto area by chance? I could have SWORN I saw someone who looked just like you at High Park this morning.

I must have a double. I live in chilly Winnipeg.
I'm actually from Wales UK but moved to Canada 2 years ago exactly the date of my half marathon. What a way to celebrate eh?!

Yikes, Winterpeg. :D

Anyways, congrats on the loss you do look fantastic.

Good luck on the half marathon! Think of me when you hit the 8k mark, I have a race this Sunday as well! I have my half marathon coming up in just over a month!

Well I was about to post my congratulations because you look fantastic and then I saw you are a fellow Welsh girl so that made me want to post even more :D

You look great and sounds like we have/had similar goals. I am trying to lose a bit more I think but am using running as my motivation. As someone who has had a bit of a belly all my life I am really hoping that running will eventually help my abs look as good as yours :)

Best of luck on the run tomorrow or should I say "Pob lwc" and it'll be llongyfarchiadau after the race!!! Sorry had to throw in my limited Welsh language there, not often I get the opportunity!!:D

I just want to say a thank you to everyone that wished me luch for my half marathon yesterday. It went really well and I loved every minute of it despite the snow.

My next goal is to run a whole marathon perhaps in July.

Flux good luck to you for your half. How did the 8k race go?

Rachie: where abouts in Wales are you? I was born and raised in Cardiff (actually went to a welsh school, so 'diolch' for your well wishes)

Hi Canadacat! Congratulations on completing the half marathon - especially if there was snow! I am from a place near Cardiff actually! A small village just outside Caerphilly :)

Well guys I haven't been on here for a long time but thought I would update with how things are going.

I'm down to 154lbs, I still have 10lbs to go but I WILL get there. I have managed to keep the weight off, not by strict dieting but continually exercising. I find that if I 'diet' I beat myself up too much on the days that I fail.

Sorry about the bra-I don't have a bikini anymore.
