My ankle hurts when I jog

I've never really worked out before until the last few days, and by that I mean basically walking and jogging.

Whenever I jog, my right ankle hurts and it doesn't take long for it to hurt either. I've never really had anything happen to it so I don't know why this is... from as far back as I can remember though, my ankle has always hurt when I ran.. I my fiance has the same problem, is this common? And how can it be fixed?

Have you been warming up thoroughly?
I have an ache in my ankle and foot when I jog if I haven't warmed up properly.
I normally walk, then jog on the spot, lift my body by raising my foot and other leg exercises etc.
Have more of a warmup, that may alleviate the problem.
:)

I had pain in my knees and shins when I first started jogging. During the first few weeks it almost was to the point were I couldnt jog at all. As time went on the pain slowly went away. When you first start working any part of your body past what it is used to it almost always will result in pain or sorness untill the body can adapt.

Of course there is always a possibility of a problem in your ankle, but since you have only been at it for a few days I would give it some time to see if it gets better.

The tip about proper warming up is good...just reiterating it....hopefully you can set aside a good 20 mins or so to really make sure you are warmed up..you should have your shoes off...socks or bare feet..don't neglect warming up first your fingers, hands, neck, shoulders, deep breathing for your lungs, simple yoga twists..to warm up your waist...you sit in crosslegged indian style...left hand on you right need, right hand behind you, deep inhale, and slow turn to your right while exhaling...and reverse it to the other side;right hand left knee..etc. Twirl your feet not just the ankles....so you have to press through your feet, stretch your toes until you point therm.. slowly and carefully round in one direction and then the other...flex and then point your toes/feet slowy and carefully....Take time to do the same rub all over your legs first.
vigorously rub your ankles, feet, toes. Single leg and double leg stretches timely and relaxed....same with wide leg. Do a few standing stretches...take your time, breath...do a few jog in place or jumping jacks to reb yourself up for jogging.

Also make sure you have good sneakers, maybe a good arch in them will help?. There might even be some helpful kind of socks to where. In general we have no idea how much weight the ankles and bones in our feet deal with on an every day level with just walking.... so you can imagine running.
