muscle muscle muscle

Hi there peeps. im something like a month into my training right now. im tryin to get a body like brad pitt. I do alot a fair bit of cardio on the treadmill (interval training) and i do alot of weights as well (chest, biceps, triceps, shoulders and peks). You see when i go to the gym (every other day) i do everything in that gym session. so i first do 16 minutes interval on the treadmill (very knackering) and then move onto weight training on all muscles.

Now, do you peeps recommend me to set a day to a particular muscle group (like mondays chest, tuesdays shoulder) or is training everything in the 1 gym session, ever other day, fine? if you recomend for me to devote a day to a muscle group then why? any input would be great as i think this is a interesting topic. thanks

ok peeps lets please forget about the brad pitt look bit. i knew i shouldnt have put that bit in! i just need advice on the question itself! should i train each muscle part on seperate days or all in 1 (every other day)

no it's good you included it because you know exactly what you want to look like. anyway, i think you should try the 5x5 with only compound lifts. also, try to focus more on diet than workouts. not to say they aren't important, but diet is the most important.

It also depends on how much time you have. A good amount of people do 3 times a week and get everything in on one day, or do a 3 day a week split with different exercises. I like to break exercises up more, focus on the compunds first, and then finish it off with some isolation exercises.

But, if you are going every other day like you said, it would be better to split it up because you need more rest for all of your muscles. It would be better to do your cardio in between your lifting days. I don't know about you, but it would take me forever to do a full body workout every other day.

It would be better to focus on the compounds and finish with isolation so your muscles dont get tired right away, 5X5 might be good like Biggie said.

Don't forget your back! you didn't have that in the list of what you workout, and of course, don't forget to EAT...like it's your job.

o yer, i forget to mention teh bak. i do the bak as well. what is a 5x5 compound lift? i mean you guys do have a point i mean it does take me a long time to do everything every other day. perhaps i can cut teh routines in half and say chest, bicep, bak one day and the other day il do shoulders, tricep. What i normally do is before i start my work out i do my interval training on teh treadmill first. i mean i wouldv thought that doing the interval training as often as possible is a good thing since you burn up fat more often. am i not right?

You do wanna burn off fat, but lifting often will raise your metabolism, so a ton of cardio isn't always necessary. 5x5 means you do five sets of five reps for each exercise, and compound exercises are exercises that utilize several muscle groups; like bench press, squats, lifts, shoulder press, etc. One thing that's important to know is what your body compostion is like. If you need to bulk up your muscles a lot, you should focus on compound exercises, you'll HAVE work your legs, (deadlifts, squats), and you should cut out the cardio. If your main goal is to burn off fat and tone your muscles, you need a lot of cardio, and maybe more exercises where you isolate individual muscles. My guess is you wanna add muscle mass, so what you should know is you can't bulk and cut fat at the same time, not effectively. You'll end up not getting the the most out of one or both. Usually, you should focus on bulking and eat a ton, then pick up the cardio and start watching your diet more closely and cut. Also, you prob. wanna do chest on the same day as tricep and shoulder, because you work all these with lifts like bench press.

Yes, for some shoulder exercises maybe, like presses. But upright rows or front/lateral raises are not using the triceps as much . It would take a while to a full chest/shoulder/tricep day, if you did work different parts of the chest and shoulders, etc.

Can you keep your posts to one subject area, instead of posting the same stuff everywhere. Here it is in the personal training forum.
