More than Time to Lose Weight !

Hi Everyone, :)

I have had probably the worst 2 - 3 yrs of my 48yrs of life.
I have had 4 bereavements inc my beloved soul mate partner (23yrs), both his parents and my mum.
I have more stress and difficulties than usual in my seemingly difficult life.
I have gone down to 8st 9lbs (yes an in UK), after my partner died and it was the only good thing in my life, but having stupidly (but not cared at the time) comfort eaten until, recently, I am now over 11st much to my great embarrassment ! I hate my body and the way it looks and wobbles.

I have finally found the motivation to start eating better and have begun to shift some pounds but now have a long way to get my life in order and start being sensible.

I have never been one for diet swinging, but like the following:

I eat and love all meats and veg and fruits. My big problem is comfort eating and disappearing a whole chocolate bar or cakes ! :(
Anyway I have managed to be sensible and stop the purchase of silly foods so they are not easily available and tried to be sensible with chocolate !
I like the rules (Paul Mackenna) :
Eat what you want, when you want, stop when you are full and don't overeat !
I had a lot of success from the Atkins diet (we) did a few yrs back and I learned a few sensible eating policies from it. I also many further yrs back did the 'Scarsdale' diet and also started to understand more principals about nutrition and food balances, but I am a beginner and have nothing like enough understanding to always be smart.
I got introduced to the Optimum Nutrition Bible which I thought was excellent, but I don't refer to it enough!
My circumstances (like no mains electric or big fridge even) make food prep to a minimal affair. Even veg tend to come from tins as any fresh just go off too fast and I have limited funds.
Summers are better with outside cooking on the bbq as much as I can, however I expect to be away from home in a few weeks for some time.

So how within all the stress, grief and a glimmer of motivation to get thinner.
I have nearly no time to exercise but in a few months I might get the time to get things more 'normal'.
SO for the minute I do a few 'floor' exercises which I have only been doing for a few days just to try and tone up a little ...
I am eating protein and veg or soup, barely eating any carbs to try and kick start the weight loss.
I try and never go hungry - having fruit when I feel a need of a nibble.
If that fails then I have a bit of meat, cheese, eggs or fish etc ...

I know that from past experience that I got down to 800 cals a day and that seem to get the weight shifted. If I eat 1000 I seem to gain weight ...
So I try and not look any longer at cals but at the good foods and try and learn what is good and things that I can easily throw in the oven with a saucepan of veg, or make a salad (usu no lettuce as too much fridge space and they just go off), or soup (tin).

Right bored you all enough with my 'story' esp for a 1st post! So sorry for long rant !
I have read some great posts in here already, and hope to learn a whole load and perhaps how to eat sensibly, once lost this weight, and then to maintain and more importantly understand how I can keep my weight 'right' for me.

Hello AuroraMagic! I'm new also and like you, I am a comfort eater. I know good nutrition, I know what it takes. I just have such a difficult time losing weight.

Thanks for replying ! :)
Yep I agree, sometimes when we know what to do it seems to make it harder as we 'know better' !
I had an exceptionally hard day the other day and managed to only go for fruit !
I weighed myself the other day and have finally broken the 11st barrier and got down to 10st 13lb (14lb to a stone!) so only just but I can 'feel' thinner .... the waist measurement isn't moving much - yet but it will !:)
With the weather getting better that always helps too - although they have just announced snow !
It is always such a huge incentive to loose weight when it starts to go !
I do try to think of an image of a specific part of m that I hate (now) when I consider eating something (too) high in calories or 'wrong' or not so good for me, and say to myself "will this help me loose the weight", " will it stop that bit (of me) look better" - if as as usual the answer is no then that seems to really help ... I do know for sure that I can loose weight by 'just' eating the right things ...
So I have had lots of meat, fish eggs and poultry, with simple veg and a yogurt sometimes later on if I feel I want it. If I want to eat I have a piece of fruit or two ... I try to last to a meal time ... and so far seem to be getting along OK :) I know that I can hit 'walls' and I dare say I will, but I do know that if I stick at it and keep the motivation 'up' it WILL work :)

What do you do ? Anything similar ? Do let me know ? :)
