MJ's Road To Fitness

Hello Everyone!

Some of you may already know me! I've been around for a while, and then not around for a while. About me, I am 34 now, and still hovering around the same 220 pounds. 5'4" I go up and down, but that seems to be where my body wants to be, but I don't!

I've made some resolutions this year to:
1. Stop drinking diet soda (Last diet soda on 2/15/10)
2. Drink the proper amount of water (100oz for me right now) Divide you body weight by 2 and that's the ounces I hear.
3. Get off my lazy behind and work out at least 3-4 days a week
4. Stop eating out and prepare more food at home
5. Limit my couch potato time, or incorporate weights while I sit on my rump and watch the tube.
6. Really, really, get into a bikini by the end of summer.
7. Build strength and endurance
8. Lose weight and keep it off!
9. Get a boyfriend!!
10. Throw my spanks in the trash!!
11. Finish my annual half marathon in under 3:30 by next October. This will be my 4th one in a row!
12. Train and finish my first triathlon.
13. Be able to run 5 miles without stopping.
14. Switch to Organic foods at least 75% of the time.

I've tried losing weight so many times over the last 30 years of my life, and I seem to always end up back in the same place.

This year I want to focus more on fitness, as well as diet. I know they are both important, but if you can only do one some days, exercise in my opinion is better and in the long run if I can make it habit, the pounds will come off and stay off.

My goal is to do a mini triathlon on September 26, 2010! Whoo hoo!! Here's the event!

Distance to train for:
For a mini-triathlon:

Mermaid Triathlon Specific:
.25mile (400m) Swim
11mile Bike
2.5mile Run

I plan on using this as my fitness diary, as well as my weight loss diary.

I want 2010 to be my year!! :cheers2:

I am tired of climbing the hill and sliding back down. :ack2:

Fitness Log (Swim, Bike, Run)

(I'll record here only the stats where I have built more strength than the last entry, and can go a longer and faster distance, so I can track my endurance building)

Walking/Running on Treadmill
02/04/10 60min = 3.1 miles
02/05/10 60min = 3.5 miles

Walking/Running Outdoors

Riding Bike Stationary
02/19/10 60 min = 10.5 miles

Riding Bike Outdoors
02/07/10 20 min = 3.5 miles
02/13/10 65 min = 11.5 miles
03/21/10 90 min = 15.0 miles
05/08/10 105 min = 17.4 miles

Swimming in Pool

I started my diet & fitness on Monday 1/4/09 and have already lost 8 lbs by today (Saturday)!!

Amazing what cutting out bad carbs, and doing some exercise can do for ya. My holiday food baby is going bye-bye!!!

Time to lose a roll or two. I'm motivated!!

Hey!

I recognize you from before :) I used to come on myself, I did the same, coming and going but until yesterday I hadn't been on for almost a year! So this year I want to do it once and for all and I have close to the same goals as you. I want to improve my fitness so I can do more activities with people outside the house (indoor rock climbing, hiking, going to the beach and swimming, none of which I do because I'm overweight, it's hard and I can't do it well and don't have the self esteem to do it!). I also want to get back into running, I worked up to a 5k last year and I want to do it again and maybe try for a 10k for now.

You said you wanted to do a mini marathon... would that be running, biking? And what is your distance goal?

Hi Trus!! So glad you are here. I see a few old faces still around, but you are right, lots are MIA.

Thanks for stopping by!! Good to see you.

Great job on the 8lbs so far :) I'm in the same boat as you- SOOO sick of getting halfway down the hill and then running back up. Though RUNNING probably isn't the right word... Using the ELEVATOR to the top, lol. That seems to be more realistic for my weight gain. If running would have been involved I probably wouldn't have headed back up the hill.

SOOO glad you're back :) There are a lot of really great "new" people on here, but its definately not the same without all the "originals" that were around for years... This is it! This is the year we FINALLY get our butts in gear. This is only the 2nd time in my life of dieting that I've actually FELT the urge to get on the wagon and stay on. That to me says success. Bikinis, here we come!

Hi MJ - a lot of your resolutions coincide with mine!

Firstly well done on the weightloss!! Just keep the focus and you will do it!

Im fairly new on this forum so I hope to connect with a lot of people to keep me focused and determined to achieve my 25kg goal!

Stay positive and think of how good you will feel when you cross that finish line of the triathlon:hurray:

Will stop in regularly!

Happy losing!:waving:

Thought I would check out your diary as well and you were right, we are a lot alike! What area of Cali are you in? My hubby moved here from San Diego but we have family all up and down the coast!

Great job on the 8 lbs already! I'm sooo jealous. Lost only 1 last week but that's mainly my fault. Had on and off days with eating and exercise. If I ate well, I slacked in the gym. If I sweated my butt off, I ate poorly. Perhaps this week I'll find a way to match those two up and make a real difference.

Good Luck with the upcoming week!

Hello Veronica! Thanks for stopping in to say and for your words of encouragement!

I live in Northern California, Bay Area. San Diego is a fun place! Love it there. Last week was my first week back on diet since Holiday weight gain, so I was bound to lose some big water weight, either way, I'll take it!!

Good luck to you this week!! Let's go for 2 pounds or more!!

I had a pretty good weekend, stayed on my diet and did not stray!

Went up a pound from Saturday to Sunday, then down 1.2 pounds from Sunday to Monday, so all said and done, I lost 0.2 pounds over the weekend. Not much, but it's a little more off!

I walked for 3 hours yesterday with a friend, shooting the b.s. outdoors. It was really nice and I enjoyed it. Must do that again. Usually I work out solo and only have my own thoughts to occupy my time.

I am setting a goal to lose 2-3 pounds this week! Here it goes! Monday is off to a great start.

Hi Miss JB - Sounds like your week is off to a terrific start. All I can say is WOW, 8 pounds is a lot to lose in about a week. Well done! :hurray:

Awe, girl! You know I love you bunches too! You're so sweet!

You read my mind about the destination reward challenge! I've been wanting to book a trip back to Cabo San Lucas this summer to finally rock a bikini!! If we want to round up 4 girls at least, I can get a deal from a friend.

5 star accomodations in Cabo San Lucas for 7 Days ($200 a person if we have 4)

Flights are usually $200 ish

So for $400, we can get flights and lodging.

We can hit up Costco for healthy eats!!

Let me know, and I will call my guy to reserve the room!!!

Whoo hoo!!!!!!
