Mixycat's weight loss diary

Hi All,
This is my story. I have never been obese, but about 17 years ago I found myself to be pretty heavy. I'm just 5'3" and my weight had crept up to about 170 and although I was exercising just about every day I was eating too much and a lot of the wrong kings of food. I've never been big on sweets, but my downfall is cheese, pasta, crackers, rice etc. Anyway, when I finally admited to myself that I needed to deal with the weight I went to about 2 Weight Watchers meetings and that was all I needed to get motivated. I couldn't stand those meetings and would do anything to stay away including doing it on my own. Well I was really successful in loosing the weight. I pretty much gave up cheese, butter and meat. Also I started exercising even more. I felt great and looked good. Eventually I took up running and found I could pretty much eat what I wanted and stay thin. Nine years ago I got married (at 40!) to a vegetarian. As time went by I put on a few pounds but kept up the running and wasn't really thin as I was before marriage, but I was still looking good. Then I had a very serious knee injury and had to have open surgery. I am no longer able to run so I walk and workout on aerobic machines at he gym pretty much every day. My weight is starting to creep up again, past the point of acceptability. I know from prior experience that its that slow creep that can really catch you off gaurd and before you know it you're way overweight, like I was at 170. Well I'm scared to death of being that overweight again and I look back at my fat pictures and see a not very attractive woman. When I'm thin I have cheekbones and I am way way more attractive. Anyway, I've joined this site because I want to get control of my eating and loose some weight. Even if I'm not pre-marriage thin, I'd be happy to fit into my med-fat wardrobe. I going to try what worked for me before and that is portion control and cutting out cheese, butter, etc.
Tonight at dinner I tried a trick I just read about. Instead of a regular plate use one of those plastic kid plates that has seperate sections for each food. Put your veggies in the biggest part and the high calorie food in the smallest section. Anyway, I tried it tonight and guess what I stuffed my face less than usual. And for dessert I had I grapefruit. Anyway, I'm tired and need to get up early for work tomorrow. I excited about my diary and have never joined a weight loss site before. I have a feeling this is the thing that I need to keep me on the straight and narrow.
Good Night Weight Loss Buddies,
Minxycat
