Michael - Hey everyone, would love some advice.

Hey guys n gals, this is my first time on a fitness forum, i'm 23 years old and i'm just starting to get serious about getting into shape, but i don't think i can do it solo, and i would love some suggestions and advice from the community.

For the past 6 months i've basically been on a diet of V energy drink and junk food and spent most of the day (if not all of it) sat on the computer. I weigh roughly 80lbs (i think, does that sound right?) so i'm not exactly FAT, i'm actually quite skinny, but i have a beer gut like santa clause, and my ultimate goal is to turn it into a 6 pack, or at least get it flat.

I've recently gone out and purchased a decent sized tub of "Hydroxy burn pro" protein shake, and a bottle of Swisse ultravitamin capsules. I'm drinking nothing but water now all day and won't go anywhere near fast food.

My daily routine now basically consists of 1 scoop of shake, 30 mins later i go for a 40 minute power walk, when i get home i throw on some Rammstein and begin lifting my 3kg dumbells (better than nothing) and then i do about 30 stomach crunches. Then i finish off with 2 more scoops of shake, and thats basically it.

I used to go to a gym at the local wave pool, and spend about 40 minutes running the treadmill and lifting weights, but i really didn't enjoy the lack of privacy and back n forth car trips, i kind of figure i can do most of my workouts at home.

So does anybody have any opinions about my new lifestyle? anything i could be doing better or anything i shouldn't be doing?

I apologise for the walls of text and partial life story, but any help at all you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

- Michael.

If I understand you correctly, your diet consists of water and 3 scoops of protein powder a day. If true, I'm shocked that you would think that is healthy. You will develop serious health issues in a short period of time.
Can you let us know exactly what your diet consists of, how tall you are and your weight, 80 lbs is not correct so it might be 80 kg.?
You don't provide enough info for proper advice.

Hi Michael!

Congrats on your new found dedication...I am going through something similar myself so we can support each other. It sounds like your working hard and headed in the right direction. 80 lbs seems a bit light for an adult, but I am not sure what your height is.

I am sure you know it already, but just as important as your exercise routine and more important than your supplements is eating a healthy diet. This is your foundation and will fuel your workouts.

Your workout sounds like a good start and I like how you are including both cardio and weight resistance. As you progress you will probably want to include some variety - such as power walking with light weights, hills, walk/jog, etc. Also, it's good to include some form of cross-training such as swimming and bicycling and will keep you from getting stale. You didn't mention stretching, but you might want to throw in some stretching after your workout.

Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions.
Good luck with your goals!

Peace,
Doug

Yeah true sorry let me be more specific.

I weigh 80 kilos, 5'10 ft.

My diet consists mostly of tuna sandwiches or muesli mixed with orange juice for breakfast, lunch consists of tinned chicken breast or ham and mayo sandwiches (wholemeal bread). Dinner is pretty random, i'm not sure what the best meal to make would be. I'm currently living at home so i need to consider my parents when cooking meals.

I don't mix water with the shakes, i use long life milk, 1 scoop with breakfast 30 minutes before training then 2 scoops 20 minutes after.

@Doug, good to meet ya bro! ;)

As far as my workouts go, aside from the power walking and light weightlifting, i happen to live in a town that is almost completely flat lol, so i compensate by running up and down my staircase about 20 times when i get back from walking. I like your ideas for additional workouts, i'm probably going to take up swimming again. As for the stretches, i actually don't do any after my training, is it important to?

Thanks again for the feedback guys =)
