Metatarsalalgia

Well, I damaged the soft tissue in the ball of my right foot a couple months ago. The pain was getting really insistent when I was even just walking, so I took a full month of running. I stopped feeling any pain for a couple weeks, and so I went for a quick 6km jog a couple days ago. I felt fine after that, so I thought I was healed, but the next day and since then, the pain is back.

Does anyone know the average healing time for an injury like this? I thought I waited long enough, but apparently not. I do walk a s***-ton daily (averaging 20,000 - 30,000 steps per day) so I'm not able to completely take the stress off my feet.
 
You might have to start off much more gradual than 6 km. It might not be what you're used to, but in order to avoid issues, you may be starting from scratch (treat it the same as a newbie just starting to run). Are you seeing anyone such as a physical therapist for treatment?
