Hey everybody,
I'm Melanie, and I'm here to lose about 30 pounds.
I'm young, but I've been carrying this extra weight for a few years and I'm sooooo ready to let it go.
Here's my background: I usually swim 5 days a week but I know I can push myself harder in workouts. My diet is pretty awful, too, and I might need some help figuring out how to eat right. I'm gonna use this journal to record my workouts and to write down everything I eat so I can reach my goal! Feel free to respond/critique/give me pointers along the way!

mmm =P just a few wonders...
have you tried calorie counting?
and do you take a multivitamin?

lol i have lost almost 30 pounds and i am 2 weeks shy of 3 months
sooo hopefully =P

but what really helped me was calorie counting... =D
i know i didnt see how much i was really eating till i started counting!

Day 1

So yesterday I wasn't feeling so good, but I managed to do alright
I woke up at about 11

I ate: 1 small green apple (12 pm)
1 ciabatta sandwich with olive spread/red onions/tomatoes (8 pm)
and 1 medium orange (8pm)
+ 2 glasses of water

For my workout:
I swam (easy freestyle-kick/swim) for an hour
Ran on treadmill a bit for 170 cal
and Cool Down on bike for 50 cal


This morning I'm feeling much better so i'll probably eat a lot more today.

oh, and to respond to AngelicaHope:
Counting calories is a must I think. Do you know of any good sites that have lists of foods/cals?
And no, I don't take a multivitamin. Is that important?
Congrats on your weight loss!!! :) That's amazing!

Day 2

So here's how today went:

Breakfast was at 12
1 cup of orange juice
1 cup of purple grapes
bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch with 2% milk

Snack at 5
1 medium orange

Dinner at 6:30
1 sandwich on 2 slices buttermilk wheat bread with (no meat/cheese) mustard, 2 pickle slices, 2 tomato slices, 3 peppers
cooked green beans
a couple cucumber slices

Workout
I swam for about 40 minutes today, but i wouldn't even call it a workout...

I weighed in at 136 at the gym today, so I'll make that my starting weight
I also got a couple measurements to track my progress (hopefully i'll have some to track!)

so here goes:
chest: 38
waist: 30.25
hips: 36.25

i'm hoping i can stay on track tonight (after all it's only DAY 2!!!!) but i'm craving something sweet, so we'll see...
 
there are a few good sites for tracking your calories including fitday and calorie king among others. the vitamins are only important if you have a deficiency in your diet, more does not = better.

Day 3

Today went like this:

Workout @ 8
40 min easy swim

Breakfast @ 10
Big bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch with nonfat milk
1 glass orange juice
1 glass water
1/2 banana

Lunch @ 2
Turkey sandwich on whole wheat with mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions
1 small banana

Dinner @ 7
1 large banana
lots of water
1 medium orange

This diet thing's been pretty good so far, and I haven't been feeling too hungry. I def need to start counting calories though...
Don't know why I ate so many bananas today, haha, but it shouldn't hurt right? It's fruit after all...
 
Day 4

Went swimming this morning at 7 so i had to wake up at 6!! Needless to say, I've been tired the whole day :sleeping:

workout
swimming 1 hr
freestyle, 9 sprints, pull and kick drills

breakfast 9am
bowl of raisin bran crunch in nonfat milk
1/2 small banana

lunch 2pm
big caesar salad with dressing, cruotons, cheese, chicken
water

dinner 8pm
small banana
small green apple
water

I feel like I ate a lot today, must've been that salad. I've been eating a whole lotta fruit lately, and I'm starting to wonder whether i should cut back...
I think I'll try and weigh myself tomorrow at the gym. it's too soon for any real progress but I think a loss of water weight will boost my mood. Wish me luck!
 
Day 5

So last night I blew it and I haven't gotten back on track yet...

Yesterday, 9:30 pm
a million ritz crackers and peanut butter!!

Today
Breakfast 8 am
bowl of raisin bran crunch
orange juice
water

Lunch
croissant sandwich with tomato, lettuce, onion, turkey
1 large banana

Dinner 5 pm
cup of clam chowder
glass of apple juice
water
1/2 bagel
taste of olive pasta

workout 3 pm
20 min treading
...and I'm still hungry. i see more peanut butter in my future :(
 
Day 6 and Day 7

My diet has not been going well at all lately.
the end of Day 5
1/2 roll of ritz crackers and peanut butter
small apple with peanut butter
orange

Day 6
12 am
1/2 roll of ritz crackers and peanut butter
small apple and peanut butter

workout 2pm
swam for 2 hours
really good workout
bunch of 500s and some pull and kick drills

dinner 6 pm
garlic and shrimp pasta
cucumber salad
bagel
water

Day 7

breakfast 10 am
glass of apple juice
water
1 cup scrambled eggs
blueberry muffin
1 bowl of raisin bran crunch with nonfat milk

snack 12
apple with peanut butter
4 ritz peanut butter sandwiches

Ugh now I feel like a pig!!! I'm gonna try right now to get back on track. I think my eating is just reflecting my mind right now- I'm stressed with school, my room is cluttered, I'm tired, I just need to pull it all together!
