Measuring calories of something you really don't know

My mom decided to make Chilli tonight, one of my favorite meals! Hip Hip Horray! The problem however, is that I really didn't know the calories in this meal, so I tried to guess, and this is what I did.

Measurements Include scale measurements, and produce package measurements and fitday for the beef and onions.

11.8 oz of lean ground beef (drained with grease hand squeezed out of it)-- 937 calories

2 cans of kidney beans totalling-- 907 calories

2 cans of tomato soup-- 318 calories (actually in the end, the second can accidently got left out, but I'm going to leave it in so I'm not underestimating my calories)

2 cans of diced tomatoes-- 255 calories

corn ( unfortunately I got down there too late, and she dumped the frozen corn in, so I made an educated guess) --400 calories

onions-- 27 calories

Total calories: 2844 calories

But of course I'm not going to eat the whole pot by myself, but we didn't know the capacity of the pot, so we add the ml content in each of the cans of food, as well as we already knew there was 2 cups of lean ground beef, etc.

Eventually we came up to a number, but because I didn't want to underestimate my calories, I lowered the number of cups for the pot to 15 cups.

Which would make my total calories for 1 cup of mom's chilli 190 calories approximately.

Do you think I did a good enough estimation calorie wise?

There are a bunch of recipe calculators for nutrition on the web - - part of is probably one fo the easiest

figuring out how many portions are usually the trick....

and if she used any extra fats, like oil for browning the beef, don't forget to tinclude that..

but honestly - close enough is usually good enough - one meal won't kill you... and just do the best you can...

enjoy the chili...

My mom doesn't cook much with oil, usually only a recipe that calls for it will get any in. But thank you for your post :D
