MCLoss Diary: Retribution!

Alright,

I have decided for the last time it is dire need of a lifestyle change. Coming from a past where I lost 40 lbs, its a shame I gained it back and I feel so ashamed at myself for allowing my weight to get to that point.

I am a male currently 180 lbs and am 26 years old. My height is an average 5'6". My goals are the following:

1. To lose approx. 40 lbs in about the timespan of 1 year
2. To eat more natural, halthier foods in smaller portions. I will try to avoid eating out whenever possible.
3. To work out 4-6 times a week whether it is light cardio, a marathon, or weights. I just need to be active!
4. To use my friends, family, and this support group to my fullest advantage. I will look to all of you for help when I need it most.

I think these goals are fairly well defined and I hope I can stick to them. I think I have not been to strict and allow myself to be very flexible in workouts and my eating habits while still staying within the "healthy" frame of mind.

Now, the challenges I see are the following:
1. Inability to control myself when I am eating out with friends. Or just out with friend for that matter.
2. I currently live in a foreign country (China, I am an American) and it will be more difficult finding healthy alternatives to food when I am not near home. Usually the only alternative is McDonalds if we can't find something nearby.
3. Find the time to focus on my needs while balancing running a business and the other problems associated within life.
4. Finding the support when I really really need it.

On a side note, I have some motivation to lose this weight. I am recently engaged and will be getting married sometime next year. I'd love to really shock people by changing myself to a healthier me. I have seen so many success stories and happy people on this forum, I just hope that my time will come as well.

If you have any advise, tips, comments, or whatever please feel free to post. Among losing weight, I always love meeting new and interesting people and hope to find some of that here as well.

Thanks for anyone reading this in advance, even the occasional "right on brother" is support enough. I can't wait to post those drastic before and after pics (if I lose weight). I think thats my last goal :)

welcome... we're the same height and age... just tack on another 100 lbs :) heh my goal weight is your starting weight.

McLoss, don't feel ashamed. The important thing is that you're doing something about it now. I've failed 8 times before. If anyone ought to be ashamed, it's me. But I'm proud of myself for changing my life before I died of a heart attack, and that's all that really counts.

Welcome to WLF!

Thanks guys! Appreciate the help! I am starting my first day out here with a bowl of yougurt with some fruit and veggies on the side. Now lets see if I can avoid the sugery coffee and other sweets when I get to work.

OK, What do you mean IF you lose weight?

You're posting pictures.
I have spoken :D

You'll have before and afters - I'm sure of it!

Sometimes getting started is the hardest part - and you've taken that step. You CAN do this :D

Oh, and like Mal said, Right On Brother!

Glad to hear the enthusiasm, I guess now there's no turning back :)

But really, thanks for the words of encouragement.

First day was not too bad, ate okay for the most part but lets see how this week goes :)

Hey there, been a while since I posted. Sorry for leaving everyone hanging.

While I have improved some of my habits since I last posted, I still have a lot of bad ones. Here a short list off the top of my head:

Not monitoring my intake
eating while watching tv
drinking more than I should
not exercising as much as I should
lack of sleep

I def. need to work on a large number of things I am not happy with.

As of now I have somewhat of a routine, I hit the gym 3 times a week for weights with friends. While I have said it before I feel that this stage in my life is ripe for a change. I am looking for help on these forums for my inspiration, encouragement, and just well being. I have finally converted a small room in my apartment to be a comfortable place to use my computer and where I can count my calories and make them all organized.

Anyways, I am rambling but I am going to do it, I know I am. I also know how much happier I will be. Ahhh I can't wait!

Thanks for listening!

I no longer watch TV with very rare exceptions of course... I think its been a very big contributing factor

Make one chang at a time - until it becomes a habit then tackle the next one - trying to do too much at once can be overwhelming and lead to frustration... I'd start with monitoring food intake sinc ethat tends to be the easiest one to deal with...

Set up an account at if you don't already and start keeping track of what you're eating... if you bite it -- Write it...

Thanks for the great advice guys. Some goods tips :)

As for counting calories I am really approximating my stuff. I currently live overseas in China and just purchase very basic foods. Chicken breast, vegtables, etc. So its harder than just looking at the back of a box. Other than I am a bachelor and run a business so eating out is def. a part of the game as well.

The TV thing I should probably stop as well. DVDs are just so cheap here I end up vegging out watching movies and munching on snacks.

THe alternative is to go out with "the boys" but then booze becomes in issue. I guess life is all about balancing.

if you're going to do that - buy snacks that you can munch on without guilt... basically -- stop buying the high calorie stuff that'snot helping you right now -if it'snot in the house - you can't eat it...

Alright, here is a small update about my life so far.

Last 4 days have been great. I *think* I have been within the right caloric range as far as the eating goes other than the rather lunch I had at an Indonesian restaurant on Wednesday. I find it really hard to count my calories properly, so I am basically approximating. This is what a typical day looks like:

Breakfast
Small Bagel w/ 1 Egg (including Yolk)
Fresh Juice - 2 apples, 1 carrot, and 1 pear
Vitamins
Water

Lunch
Spaghetti w/ Tomato sauce w/ grilled chicken pieces
Small bowl of homemade yogurt

Mid afternoon snack
Whole wheat wrap w/ grilled chicken, small amount of grated cheese and an apple topped of with salsa

Dinner
6" subway or equivalent

I may eat a piece of fruit in the middle and to satisfy the snacking crave I may have half of a chocolate protein bar w/ a glass of skim milk

By my calculations I am probably consuming 1600-1800 calories. While the above sounds like a lot, I have been controlling portions.

Also yesterday I want to a buddies house playing x box and all of the boys decided to snack on doritos and the like, I completely avoided them all. Really proud of myself on that one.

I just find it hard to really count my calories since 90% of what I eat is like actual cooked food, not stuff on the back of boxes. I also don't prepare all of my food, but I think my approximations are about correct.

I have also been working out regularly. I had a chest workout on Monday, have done cardio 3 times this week. Planning on doing the back routine today w/ light elliptical cardio and I am participating in a Terry Fox Marathon tomorrow morning so wish me luck. I am currently in China and will be going to visit my family and friends in NY around February and would like to start having big differences in my looks by then.

Anyways, if anyone has tips with the countring calories I am all ears. I have even downloaded fitday for the PC, but I really just have no time to enter my stuff in.

Also anyone got other tips, I would love to hear them.

Just wanted to post about the Terry Fox Run I did yesterday. Was pretty cool, woke up early on Saturday and attended the Terry Fox Run for cancer research.

The run wasn't that excruciating, about 5-7 km with random bouts of uphill and downhill fun, but I at least got a cardio workout and it was for a good cause.

The calorie intake I was not too porud of. I was with some of my boys, we choose to meet at McDonalds. This was my entire day of eating:

breakfast
1 small lenders bagel with light cream cheese
1 sausage mcmuffin
1 mcdonalds coffee
(I skipped the hasbrown)

lunch
Papa Johns pizza, like 3 slices

dinner
thai food
3 glasses of white wine

While I don't think I exceeded the calorie intake by too much it was def. offset by my run, my good behavior previously in the week, and all the time i put into the gym this week.

Anyways, just wanted to post on the successful run and I have pics on my facebook. If your interested in having a peek PM me and I'll add you as my friend.

Till next time.....

Guess Who's Back

Alright, I haven't posted in my diary for a LONG time. Guess what, I was trying to lose weight and I basically failed before I begun. Either way its cool, I am not disheartened by it; it just wasn't my time.

Now I am back, its nearly May 2010 and I have decided I am going to eat right and work out! So I have set my mind on it and I am doing P90X along with learning to cook. While both will not be easy, these will be my large goals and I will work everyday (in my capacity) to achieve these goals.

If anyone has some comments on the program, let me know would love to hear peoples personal stories.

I guess I'll try to come back here and put my thoughts into word, if anyone listening would love to hear your comments.

Later!

AAlright guys. After multiple failed efforts I am back at it again.

This time I've actually done something tho. Since Nov 2011 I've been going to the gym regularly at least 4 times a week.

Since Feb 2012 I've gone to the gym pretty much every day. Twice I meet with a trainer and the rest of the time I do 45 mins of cardio and some ab exercises.

Been watching what I eat and try to control the snacking the best I can.

I had a weight check done early in 2011 and I weighed around 98-100 kilos. I am not at 91-92 kilos.

My clothes fit tons better and neary two notches off my belt.

So yeah. This is gonna stay. I am really fitness minded at the moment and let's hope I can drop 20 more kg by Sep.

Chime in with your results.
