Hi everyone, I am a newbie to the forum and am really enjoying it. So many people seem to be struggling with the same weight issues as I am. I have never had much success with dieting and have tried just about all of them. I have decided to to be more realistic in my weight loss approach and have decided to stop "dieting" and instead reduce my calories and eat healthier foods. I have just started to follow an eating plan that I found on a weight loss blog. If I have any success, I'll let you all know.

Hello,

That is great news and welcome to the site. I wish to the best of luck on reaching your goals. If you are feeling up to it there is also a journal area on this site as well so we can watch your progress and offer tips / advice as well. :)

You're on the right tracks, fad diets are a load of bunk, stick to the science.

1lb of fat is 3500 calories, if you have a 3500 calorie deficit in your diet you will lose 1lb, spread over a week that's only 500 less calories per day.

Work out your maintenance calorie amount online using a calorie calculator and then simply aim to reduce calories below that.

Remember that burning calories helps a lot too! Make sure you get some exercise in there!
