Maximum weight declining and time vs. results

First post! Nice forum!

I have been lifting regularly for almost 1 year. (1.5 hours day 1, 30km cycling or 1hr swimming day 2, 1.5 hrs lifting day 3, cycling/swim day 4, day 5 Rest)

I started out 12 months ago 58 lbs / 26kg heavier than I am today. I was in bad shape....

As I have been dropping, my maximum bench press has been dropping too. It peaked about 4 months ago (was c18lbs/8.5kg more than today..). In every way I am in better condition, but I cannot get back to that bench weight. Any ideas?

What are the results that I should expect after one year? I find that my weight is coming off more slowly now, and I expect that I have about 10-15lbs more to lose. What should I look like or be lifting? (I know that it depends massively on body type, so give it to me for Mr.Average!)
Thanks

Your problem is that you're not training like an athlete who wants a bigger bench. Unless you want to give up all the fun cardio you do, which probably does as much for your state of mind as it does for your health, I would just not worry about your bench max. It doesn't tell you anything anyway, and constantly attempting it will eventually get you injured.

Assuming you want to improve it anyway, lay out a basic routine. You mention how long you train, but don't say what you're doing. Keep in mind though, that you are cutting your performance significantly with all the swimming/cycling, so if you enjoy that, don't fret over your dwindling max numbers.

welcome to the forum!

first of all, i agree with jp about the bench press. unless you're a powerlifter, theres really no need to take the risk.

in response to your second question...there are so many variables involved and so much person to person variation, it is really hard to make any kind of ballpark estimate...however, losing 58 pounds in one year is impressive. obviously you will lose weight when you burn more calories than you take in. as a very rough rule of thumb, about a 3000 Calorie differential is a pound lost. dont worry about how long it takes to work, just know that it works. everyone can eventually have a great body if they work for it.
