max length in gym

I heard that the max you should spend in the gym is one hour, dono why, but is this true? Also, I do weights and cardio in the same day, cardio after, does it matter how long im spending in the gym?

Nah, not really. What you'll hear is either

"if you're spending more than an hour in teh gym, you're not working hard enough"

or

"dood, those cortisol levels will sky rocket and all your gains will be shot"

Just listen to your body. I've had great 25 minute workouts and great 1.5 hour workouts...just depends on what my mindset is, how far I want to take myself to puking level, and what movements I'm (or you're) doing. The deal with cortisol is it can be combated with longer rest sets, carbs during workout, and a higher workout capacity.

I lift 6 days a week, 1hr and 45 minutes or a little less. Purly on weights. And I take about 1 min breaks btw sets. The thing is, I do many exercises. Average about 6-8 a day. Every muscle counts. :)

I say keep it under 1.5 hours, to keep your intensity high. I'm one of the people evo talked about, if you're in there for 2 hours you're not workin hard enough :D lol

Thats a load of Bullsh** That if your in there for more than 2hours. What If your in there doing shuts or something try and tell me thats not working hard.

Blood sugar levels and Glycogen

It all really has to do with blood sugar and glycogen... if your body cannot continue rebuilding the ATP (chemical used for energy) to do the exercises then you are no longer stressing your muscle you are taxing a system that has run out of resources. So just really do what feels right.. if you arent on anabolic steroids then you should really only be doing a workout of about 45 minutes long thats only weight training section the warm-up and stretch dont count. Also the real fuel for your muscles is stored in glycogen when you run out of that you can really shortcut your gains because again you arent taxing the muscle you are taxing a system that is running low or out of resources. So just focus on making sure you are really stressing your muscles and not running on empty... if you are really genetically lucky you can get away with working out 2 hours straight but most likely not :D either way have fun

If your a beginner, please keep it under 1 hour. As you get more advanced, you could stay longer depending on what your body is telling you.

As for doing shuts don't quite get that one. But staying for 2 hours is only for advanced people, the only thing 2 hours is 2LONG.
