Does everybody read my diary? That's ok with me....I am 63 yrs old, weigh 260 lbs, only 5 ft tall. Live in Brooklyn, NY--too crowded. Just joined a wt loss program that may be too difficult for me to follow. But I am still trying it. Need to keep under 1411 calories...can't seem to do it. Keep a food diary, count calories. Stay under in daytime but at nite go over the calories to 1500-1800 cal. Been at it 2 weeks and getting a little discouraged. Was very sedentary for 5 years. Now exercise 10 minutes at a time, 3xs a day. Sometimes do warm up and cool down to my dance aerobics dvd. Must go slow due to heart condt., asthma, numbness in 1 leg, arthritis in knees. Will start counting my heart rate when exercising...Hope I enjoy this website new to me. Since it is free, I may quit the paying program, but will give it a few months.

Hi Marquoh. Nice job keeping up with your exercise program. Welcome to the forum and best of luck to you! :grouphug:

May I offer you an idea that's worked out well for me? Have you tried planning your meals ahead of time to help you keep yourself on budget?

I'm a horrible judge of calorie content and if left to my own devices I always end up eating either far too few or far too many calories. Lately I've found it VERY helpful getting up a half hour earlier in the morning and weighing/planning my breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner. Just knowing that I'll meet (and not exceed) my calorie goals by following the planned menu I create also gives me a little extra motivation not to cheat or undercut myself.

You have it within yourself to meet your goals, Marquoh. Remind yourself regularly that you can do this, don’t beat yourself up over slip-ups, and keep trying until you find something that works for you. :biggrinjester:

thanks for good idea

Hi Schwa, that is a good idea to plan my meals for the day in the morning. I find if I eat a fish & veggie meal & a tabouli(bulgur wheat) salad meal, I stay under the calorie count. Out of 18 days I am counting calories, I stayed under 1411 calories for only 4 days. It's the evenings that my brain wants to eat....so if I munch on a grapefruit, apple, plum, grapes, I would do better than cheese & crackers. I must put the fruit in the front of frige to see them when I open the door. Got to stay away from fats that clog arteries. I like fruits. Seems I crave starch, though. So if I eat a slice of bread for breakfast, I will burn it off during the day's exercises. Got to stop eating every 2 hours....How are you doing with the wt loss thing?

Hey, Marquoh! Great to meet someone else over 55! :seeya: (and over 200 pound :( )

I've been struggling away losing weight very very slowly, but have noticed some actual good results -- my knees have stopped hurting, and I think hips have stopped in the last few weeks too -- holding my breath on that one.

I agree re planning out meals -- in fact, I'd go further, and plan out a week's worth of meals, and then select from them, as if from a restaurant menu, every day -- that way, you've got all the shopping done ahead of time.

Something to try -- it works for me -- is to eat a good big breakfast (healthy of course, and not insanely big!), then a lightish lunch, and then a very light evening meal indeed, and to have it early.

Look forward to reading about your triumphs in future days!

It's so nice to have you here! I was just reading your post and was wondering since you eat most of you calories at night would it be hard for you to eat more fruits and veggies in the day time and then at night time have your dinner later that usually and then go to bed? that way when you do go to bed you are full and will sleep better too? I don't really know It's just a thought. I have found that eating whole grain bread makes me fuller faster so if I want bread I eat one and drink about 20 oz. of water and then eat dinner. I know that I have always heard not to eat a few hours before going to bed but that used to get me. .I would go to bed and get hungry and then eat junk. I didn't want fruit at that time of night. so I started eating a little later and going to bed not long after and I could get to sleep faster and not be hungry. anyway, glad to have you here. You can do this!

Thanks for all your really good ideas. I will put them to use and let you all know how I'm doing. Glad to be onboard. Marquoh
