marathon at my age???

Hi all,

I have a question. I am 30 years old female, and have the lowest level of fitness possible for a 30 year old. The fact that I have never played any sport ever is probably a contributing factor. the last time I remember playing any kind of sport was when I was 10 years old. Since then I have been a couch potato. I loved academics , so that all i did all these years. I have a body fat % that puts me in the obese category. Last 10 years I have been working in a software company, so add a lot of cakes, chips, pizzas and soda to my already unhealthy being.

My question is - is it possible to start running or doing any other fitness "thing " at this age? I really really want to run a marathon. Thats on my bucket list. Is that possible at my age , with my health history?

I would also appreciate any other tips you can give me.

yes you can most certainly run a marathon. I have seen people in your situation but older do it and achieve their time goals.

However I will say that I dont believe marathons are healthy for you. I have run one and trained for quite awhile so I know that some people just want the experience however running for 26 miles is not healthy. Running and training for that long will do damage to your body. get checked out by a doctor for sure.

Thats not to discourage you, like I said i have run one (and i got out run by people much older than 30 :p ). I would suggest that you train for and run a 10k to see how you feel about running. that is about 6 miles and something I believe you can attain in the next year for sure. If you want to set a very long term goal and say by 35 you are going to run a marathon I think thats a realistic goal based on what you have said.

Good Luck
