I know I addressed this to Maleficent, but if anyone has a suggestion I'd love to hear it. I did a search but nothin on plain broccoli came up :(

I just bought 3 fresh broccoli stubs or bunches or however I'm supposed to refer to it. I don't know if I should just boil it, or what? I bought it a couple days ago though and I don't want to waste it so does anyone have any suggestions? What about asparagus? I also bought a bound of thin asparagus, and I don't want to waste that either. Thanks to anyone who has any ideas!

I personally do not like steamed or boiled vegetables... it makes them too vegetabley :D

My personal preferance for brocolli or asparagus is to toss it with a little bit of olive oil... some fresh ground pepper (because i like pepper), a clove of garlic or two, chopped up (because garlic makes everything better), and then roast it in a 400 degree oven on a cookie sheet covered with tin foil (I tend to use my toaster oven on broil) til the vegetable gets a little toasty and really really green...

for an added bonus - a little bit of parmesan cheese adds a nice touch to it

or either one could be chopped into bite sizes pieces and used in a stir fry with some chicken chunks and a little bit of soy sauce...

asparagus makes a nice snacky food too - especially the thin spears, you can put three or four together, and wrap a slice of turkey breast around it -- create a few of those and it's a nice lite lunch. maybe dip into mustard or ranch dressing.

boil it, steam it, bbq it, bake it, stir fry it, put it on a pizza, eat it raw with a bit of ranch dressing, put cheese on it, toss it in becel, etc...the possibilities are endless.

Awesome thanks guys! So I just chop up the raw broccoli and then toss it with the olive oil and garlic (I have fresh garlic too, I love it as well) and bake at 400 degrees for like 10 mins maybe? Basically until tender right? I LOVE the asparagus idea as well, I love mustard so I'm totally going to try just dipping it in mustard. :hug2: Thanks!

I like it so that it's a little crisp but the flowers are a little brown - it gets an almost nutlike flavor... 10 minutes should do it...

I like to put it on a pan in the oven and sprinkle it with Lowery's seasoned salt. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Even better is when I'm baking skinless chicken breast sprinkled with lemon pepper, throw the broccoli on the same pan 20 minutes from the chicken being finished. mmmm time for dinner...

It's summer...

Try throwing some skewers through your asparagus and grilling it... (best to boil it first to par cook it) let it sit in some lemon juice, and garlic for a bit first...then onto the grill we go.

I love the added flavor of the grill (Especially because I do not think smoke contains calories!!!!)
