Hello! I have been working to achieve a healthy lifestyle for exactly two weeks now. I lost 3 lbs in the first week and have not done my second weigh in yet. I plan to have my weigh in on Mondays to keep me motivated throughout the weekend. I figured I would answer the suggested questions for starting a diary to get off to a strong start on this forum!

-- How much weight do you want to lose? 18lbs (only 15 lbs more to go)

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? nothing specific, but within the next three months would be preferable, and a healthy weight loss rate.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? I plan on using the Weight Watchers at home kit to keep track of my points. I also plan to eat 5-6 meals a day at 3-4hr increments to keep my metabolism up, my blood sugar up to a normal range, and to minimize overeating from hunger. I also love to exercise. I plan on running, swimming, biking, and lifting weights to reach my goals.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? This forum will keep me accountable, so I plan to use it as a great source of support, advice, and inspiration.

-- How realistic is your goal? I think my goal is fairly realistic as it is at a healthy BMI. I am afraid that my goal my be slightly low for my body type. My father is German and I inherited his genes (which I love, I wouldn't want it any other way). So, I am tall and broad shoulder with a strong bone structure. I played competitive volleyball and softball for several years, as well as swam competitively for many years. So, I may have to adjust my goal as I progress to something a little higher as I replace the fat I gained over the past few months with muscle.

-- When will you start? I started two weeks ago and plan to keep on going.

Where did my extra pounds come from? Well, I am applying to Medical Schools and am studying for the Medical College Admissions Test. What has happened is that I have replaced exercise time with study time, and have replaced cooking dinner time with drive through fast food. I have a logical but not the most a healthy thought process of, "if I have time to work-out, then I have more time to study." Also, I used to NEVER eat fast food, maybe twice a year. And I used to always work-out for at least two hours a day six days a week. But, when I began taking the more difficult science course as well as dating (3 yrs now) my boyfriend that makes daily trips to fast food establishments (he is working on becoming more healthy as well), my healthy habits transitioned from 95% of the time to 75% of the time...so here I am.
Also, in the beginning of January, I suffered an ankle injury that impeded my ability to exercise. I fell down some stairs and my foot was caught underneath me as I slid. This past Sunday was the first Sunday I was able to swim without pain!

I am very excited to get back on track with my healthy lifestyle and to be a part of a motivational environment that is provided by the forum! Good luck to everyone!

Monday Weigh-in!

I weighed in this morning and lost 1.5 lbs this week!

My daily target point total is 22 points.
I have 35 weekly allowance points left for this week.

The following is what I have eaten so far today:

Breakfast:
1/2 cup egg whites (1 pt) 1/2 cup kidney beans (2 pts) 1/2 cup strawberries (0.5 pts) 2 slices (light whole grain) toast (1 pt)
2 tsp benefiber (0.5 pts)
Breakfast Points Total: 5.0 pts

Snack: Fiber One Yogurt (1 pt)

Lunch: Veggie burger (1pt) Carrots (0pts) 1 cup grapes (1pt)
Lunch Points Total: 2.0 pts

Snack: Apple (1pt), 5 Hershey's Kisses (5pts)

Dinner: Lean Chicken Breast (1.5 pts), 3/4 cups grean peas (2pts), and 2 slices toast (light whole grain) (1pts)
Dinner Points Total: 4.5 pts

Total Points: 18.5 pts

So, I am under my points for the day. I need to be better about it. They say that absolute minimum points you should eat is 18 but that you should always try to eat your daily points allowance. I have been having difficulty reaching that lately.

Exercise: none (I don't normally exercise on Mondays)

interesting breakfast that you've got there - was it all combined into one bowl? or an kidney bean and egg white omelette :)

Welcome to your diary and much success on getting to wheree you want to be

HAHA! I guess I should have clarified.

They were all separate. I had scrambled egg whites, with a side of beans, a side of strawberries, and a side of toast. I mixed the benefiber into my glass of water.
I have thought about making an omelette with the egg whites and kidney beans, but I haven't yet because I enjoy the distinct flavor of the beans, and am wondering if the flavor would be lost in the omelette. I just need to try it, because right now, I simply add pepper to the scrambled egg whites.

AH! My parents brought Easter Candy on Their Visit this Weekend!

Yesterday was Day 16. I had been doing so well for the last 15 days. I was eating correctly and was exercising. As long as I don't have temptations in my house, I am fine. However, my parents visited me this weekend, and since I was not able to go home for Easter weekend, my parents brought Easter candy to my house! It was very sweet of them to do so, but last night, was the opposite of healthy.

Breakfast: 1/2 cup egg whites (1pt), 1/2 cup kidney beans (2pts), 1/2 cup strawberries (0/5 pts), 2 slices of light whole grain toast (1), and 2 tsp benefiber in my water (0.5pts)
Breakfast Point Total: 5.0 pts

Snack: Fiber One Yogurt (1pt)

Lunch: Salad w/ 2 tbsp Ranch (4pts), Banana (2pts), 1 slice Marble Rye Bread (2pts), 2oz of Tuna (1.5pts)
Lunch Point Total: 9.5 pts

Snack: Apple (1 pt)

Dinner: 1.5 tbp natual peanut butter (4 pts), Lean Cuisine (5pts)
Dinner Point Total: 9 pts

Snack: 10 pieces of chocolate (17.5pts)

My total for the day was 43 points! My daily target is 22 pts!
I now have 14 points left of my weekly allowance.

That is just it, I can not have temptations in my house. After I started getting sick, I threw the rest of the chocolate away. But why I didn't throw it away or give it away to being with, I don't know.
I guess I thought I could just have 2 pieces a day, which would be fine, but once I got going, I just continued to eat them.

I am disappointed because for 15 days straight I was going strong and healthy, and one night I just splurged. I felt like I ended my streak. However, the perk is, one day is not going to cause a huge set back. I will pick myself up today and eat how I am suppossed to eat. Hopefully, in a few days, I will undo the damage.

The next times temptations are brought to my home, I will thank them for the gift, and simply bring the treats to work the next day and place them in the common area. This way the gift will still bring enjoyment to some and stay our of my stomach!

:waving:hi doc! Good on ya for getting your health in order. Sounds like you are going about it in a healthy way, which is grand. Don't fuss too much about the splurge - we all do it on occasion! You just start making better choices right at your next meal, and carry on.

Best wishes on your journey! You must be very driven to be applying to Med School, so I have NO DOUBT you can achieve this, also.

cheers
ABBA
