Lunges?

Randy,
Start with bodyweight lunges. They are excellent for overall lower body development--including hypertrophy, strength, functionality, and power. Don't worry about weight...get them right first, then worry about weight.

I done them today, i touch my knee to the floor. I used 100pounds (5x5 each leg) on the barbell but i just finished 12x3 on the sumo deadlift.

Lunges are tough. Squats are tough too, but too many people do them sissy style (on a smith machine or a 2-inch squat). Try walking luunges with your arms lifted straight overhead throughout the entire moement. This challenges your balance and your core. Once you get good, hold some dumbbells!

What are bulgarian squats???

Do you do lunges one leg at a time? or keep one leg forward for one set, then change sides?

I was thinking about adding lunges to my workout, but I have a lot of dumbell hold already. How about dumbell lunge with a shrug at the end to make it more compound and save doing dumbell shrugs as well???

Thats a really handy website, thanks newf.

I did split squat when very 1st started at the gym, but with weights its very tricky to balence.

Newf, sending you a PM

Yup, that's them Newf. I just always think of split squats, for some reason, with teh bb on your back and doing stationary lunges.

Anyway, yeah they're a bit tricky to get your balance going but I love them. I typically use one of teh bench press benches. I use them because my quads are under-strengthened compared to my glutes and hams.
