Lumpy little newbie in the house!

I’m Mandy, 24 from London, UK. Joined this here forum to mingle with those of you who know what it’s like to feel painfully uncomfortable in your own skin and want to do something about it.

For some while, I’ve been unhappy with the way I look. It seems clothes don’t quite fit the way they used to. Everything feels frumpy. I don’t quite feel feminine anymore.. just.. lumpy. I feel physically unfit and ashamed of the way I eat. I’m a complete comfort eater by nature. If something depresses me.. I turn to food. I don’t mean like literally shovel 10 chocolate bars down my throat... It’s more of a craving/binge than anything. I’ll sit and happily eat a tub of glacier cherries and a bag of pork rinds if it takes my fancy.

I took a stroll on the GI diet last year for two months, but found it excruciatingly painful. I was moody, snappy, unhappy and unable to cater for the strict routine the diet employed. I’ve not thought about dieting since! Until now!! I’ve decided the best plan for me would be to start on the Weight Watchers plan. Where I can eat a *little* bit of what I crave every now and again to reward me for the milestones I’ve crossed.

I’m currently 11st 2lbs (156lbs) and hoping to lose at least 3st (42lbs) by December.

Looking to make some new friends, lose weight, give support to other users, get support and share some luuurrrve!

Welcome to the forum and best of luck!

Unfortunately, so many people lock themselves into one diet plan and are miserable with it. The trick is, keep toying around until you find something that not only works.... but also something you can live happily with.

Actually, IMO, the secret is a balanced, whole foods diet that includes some of the foods you crave in moderation accounted for in your caloric totals.

Again, best to ya. :)

Thanks for the advice and the welcome reply Steve :)

I do see what you mean. I felt like a total prisoner on the GI diet. NEVER going back to that again! I actually had fun reading Weight Watchers material and don't mind having an after hours lock-in on this plan. ;) The food actually looks quite decent and I don't have to cut out everything-under-the-sun to be able to manage. Also, there is room for toying around! :jump: Woo!

Yea, I've seen a good amount of people succeed with WW. If it works for YOU, that's all that matters.

My boyfriend is on the GI and we've had a nightmare this week trying to find him things to eat. He's only just started up too. He has a lot more willpower than me. At least we won't be a regular couple arguing over the TV remote. We'll be arguing over the fridge. ;)

Well, if he ends up not liking it, it's pointless to continue.

I think you'll find that most people here are finding success without sticking with a pre-packaged diet plan.

Most of us simply control our calories and eat as I said above.

I need rules to abide by rather than counting the cals. I've done cal counting and it don't work for me. I'm confident the WW plan will work. I've had a ball just reading through what I'm going to be eating. Gives me a chance to flash my stuff in the kitchen too :D

As I stated before, I don't have an issue with WW per se. I was directing my last comment at your boyfriend.

And the backbone of all diet *plans*, weight watchers and the like, is controlling calories. If you aren't directly counting cals, you are indirectly. It's that simple. You can't lose weight until calories are controlled/regulated.

Good luck with your weight loss goals! I'll let you and Steve discuss plans and methods. I, personally, have trouble following a plan. Heh. If I'm told I'm restricted, I rebel. I've been like that since birth. lol!
You picked a great place to come. There are so many wonderful and supportive people here that have your back. Best of luck!

Thank you all so much for welcomes and replies :) Feeling settled in here already!

Steve... thank you again for your help!! :) I'm digesting all the information I'm getting and taking it into my fragile little mind... I say fragile because it's been a mental day at work today! Bedtime will soon be nigh! God bless Mondays!
