Lower leg tendon problem

Calling on all runners, joggers, hikers, soccer players, basketball players-athletes in general... I have severe pain in my tendon in my lower leg. Just one leg too. The pain is a tight pulling on the bone. But what trips me up is that it is only on one leg. And it doesnt feel like shin splints, i have had those before. But after running even just 3 miles i cant go on any longer, it pulls so hard that i cant even walk on it for 15 to 20 minutes after.

I have stretched the gastroc muscle and soleus and hamstrings (gently) and used a roll and have massaged it and done everything i could to make it feel better.

This has been going on for a week or two now..and it feels like tendonitis...but i dont know anything for sure. And cant know, because i have no health insurance so i cant go to the doc to get checked up.

I finally iced it today. Felt amazing, but it wore off and now even just sitting here and it is terrible pain.
What about using some kinesiology tape?

Now, do I run through the pain or give it a rest?
Probably rest i know. But how long?

I would rest it, I just read about a program called yipfit.com on a different thread and I checked it out and it looks really cool. Maybe it can help fix your sore tendon.
One sided pain could indicate your hip being out of alignment, I heard it would cause more impact on one side and pull the fascia more...I don't really know,..just saw this stuff on yipfit.
Hope you get better soon

You are right. Rest the area that has got injured and refrain from any kind of activities that will further aggravate the problem. You will have to allow the body’s natural healing system to work on the damaged tendon. For this, adequate sleep is required. This not only enhances blood circulation in the body but also quickens the healing process.

Damaged tendons need extra rest for healing. Depending on the extent of damage, long term changes might have to be incorporated into our daily life. Once the pain subsides, do not resume heavy activities as the tendon will still need some more time to heal completely.

You may consider some of my other tips also:
• Perform small and mild exercises under the watchful eyes of an experienced physiotherapist. Remember that the more blood reaches the tendon faster will be the healing process.

• Keep the affected area in motion. Slowly move the joint during the full range-of-motion exercises. Slowly move it even when in a resting position. Once the pain recedes continue with small and light exercises before performing some other exercises to strengthen the muscles.

• Don’t stop applying ice. Apply the cold pack or ice for a minimum of ten to fifteen minutes every four hours, at least twice in a day. Look for the inflammation and pain to recede before stopping the cold pack. Heating pads also reduce pain but ice produces long term benefits.

• Perform warm up exercises before and after lifting. This will get your muscles ready to endure the force of the upcoming activities. Start from low intensity and gradually increase the intensity till the affected region is able to endure it comfortably. Stop as soon as you feel any kind of discomfort. After every activity that you perform, apply ice on the area to prevent its swelling.

• Research conducted on varied number of patients has proven that tendon injuries tend to heal faster in non smokers than smokers.

There is no need to get panicked in case of a tendon injury if you know how to treat a tendon injury at home. All of my tips are simple and very easy to follow.

Do you normally run on level surfaces? Is there any reason that you would favor one side and put more pressure on the other leg? The reason I ask is that about 20 years ago i was having a lot of stiffness and discomfort in one of my hips. When to a bunch of doctors and they couldn't figure out why. I came to the realization is that I had a painfull corn on one of my baby toes that was causing me to favor one side and that was causing the problem in the opposite hip! Kind of ironic that all those educated doctors coudn't figure it out and it was right under their noses! LoL!
