lower left pain in stomach while running

I just dont get whats going on. I am very inshape and have been running 3-5 miles every other day for the past year training for the army. untill the past 3 days in a row I could barely walk back to my house it hurt sooooo bad. i have been doing a lot of research and most forums say cramps happen on the right side, not a whole lot on the left. but it does almost feel as though i tore a muscle. The thing thats really wierd is that I walk for .5 before i start actually jogging to warm up a little, then ill take what seems like 20 steps then my side feels like it was torn open by a foreign object and then i will streach and walk it out and as soon as my foot hits the pavement to jog, it stabs again but worse. sometimes it hurts so bad i cant catch my breathe. ive had MRI and CT scans and came up with nothing! ive also rested for months, soon as i start fittness the pain starts. really would love some help with this please, thank you.

Cramps can happen in both sides, but if it's recurring like this, something else is going on.

What other types of activity do you do? It's possible that you could have strained an abdominal or oblique muscle.

Also, I'm not sure if an ultrasound scan would pick up anything that an MRI wouldn't, but maybe that would be worth a try.

PS: Where are you living that you were able to get an MRI within 3 days?!

I would have suggested hernia, but it seems that before anyone gave you a scan you would have been checked for that... are you controlling your breathing when you run - getting into some sort of rhythm tied to your step rate? That can help if it is just a cramp or side-stitch. If medical malady, not so much!

@Jrahien,dads works in a hospital ;) ive been checked for a hernia, NO ultrasound tho. ive also had a very lovely colonoscopy and my insides are fine. it must be a tendon/muscle problem. I have been in the army for some time in the past and did a lot of fitness and running and never had this problem before, now i cant run to the end of my road as it ends up with me in agony, so confused. would physiotherapy help?

It would, but you might not have to resort to that yet. If it is a muscle strain, then you can just go oldschool with good old resting and ice. In my experience, abdominal strains heal pretty well without medical intervention.

i am also facing this problem.
