Lower Back Pain while rope jumping

I decided it was time to get into shape. I decided to try a Boxing for fitness program at my local gym. The first exercise i was asked to do was 2 minutes of rope jumping. Well, about 30 seconds into it, i start getting a lower back pain and i had to stop. What boggles my mind is that there is no pain while standing, walking, sitting or bending over to pick something up. BUT, crawling into bed at night is VERY painful and jumping up and down in one spot hurts. I think i may have pulled a muscle, how long does it take for a pulled muscle to heal? any tips on "easing" into full blown skipping?? whats the best methods for easing a sore back???

other info: im 38, 250lbs, about 60lbs overweight and I havent exercised in over 20 years.....so yeah, i want to continue with the boxing for fitness and rope jumping, im not looking to compete.........any advice on how to heal a strained muscle and ease into the rope jumping???

Google up some upper/lower back stretches. Do some light stretches which shouldn't be painful. Give it sometime, don't aggravate it with more exercise, and let it heal.

When healed Google up some lower back exercises or ask a personal trainer at your gym. There are plenty of lower back exercises you can do with bodyweight on a mat. Do this to strengthen your back.

Also lose some weight, I'm sure those extra pounds are putting pressure on your back.

After you've strengthen your back try hitting the ropes again. You might want to ease in by power walking. It really depends how weak your back is.

If all else fails get it checked out by a physician to make sure your back is healthy.

get off your heels.

need to focus on using your calves, by being on your toes.

this is totally a tight calve, heel banging indicative post!

STOP THAT!
