low fat diet

Hi My husband and I started on a low fat diet on Jan 1 2005. we take walks everyday and try to exercise everyday. I would like to know how much fat should you consume in a day. I have lost 17 pounds so far and my husband has lost 15, I work out alot more than him. this is my routine (bare with me I just started to work out) I just turned 40. I start with leg lifts using 20pound weights and I do three reps of about 20 to 25, then leg curls I can only do 40 of them, then I do about 25 to 30 situps, three sets of 25 lunges and squats, and I ride the bike for about 15 to 20 minutes, I also do arm curls with some smaller weights, I am very happy with the results but would like to know how much fat you should have in your diet? I was a big pop drinker and we have cut out all pop I drink flavored water and my husband drinks juice.

Dont think of it in terms of "how much fat". Think of it as "how many calories of fat". The key to losing weight is simple as anyone here will tell you. Burn more calories than you consume. Sounds easy, right? Well, there are a few catches.

1. If you consume to little calories, you go into starvation mode.
2. If you consume the wrong Macronutrient makeup, your results will not be quite what you hope.

Macronutrients should be consumed in a percentage of total calories. I eat in a 40-40-20 split right now since Im trying to build a little muscle. Thats 40 percent protein, 40 percent carbohydrates, 20 percent fat. That split isn't hard to achieve especially by supplimenting with protein powder. Id assume that your not trying to build too much muscle, a 50 carbs, 30 protein, 20 fat split may be better for you.

its a FREE :D calorie intake journal. you tell it what you ate, it gives you calories, grams of carbs/protein/fat. Its really helpful

Just wanted to say the weight keeps coming off. I am so happy. I went through some jeans that I have not been able to get into for years and 8 pairs fit me with a little room left over. I can't believe it. I am not really on a diet it is more of a change in eating habits. Do you know where I can find a list of easily digestable foods. Also my husband works with a guy who is training to be a paramedic and he said every couple of days change what you eat so you are not eating the same thing day in and day out, this will help your motabalisom. thank you for all your help!!!!!!!

The guy that told your husband that you should change up what you eat is exactly right. Keep your body guessing. Don't let it get used to anything. Congratulations on your progress, keep it up :).
