Well I have been and got weighed at our local healthy weight and well being programme and I am officially morbidly obese! Did not come as a surprise, last time I went on a flight to New York I had to ask for an extension belt for the seat I was in. I have had to buy larger sizes in clothes and I am generally feeling rubbish.

This group is a group that prepares you for bariatric surgery, I have to initially lose 7kg and then I can do some psychological work and CBT and then I have to maintain the new food behaviours for exactly one year and they will consider me for surgery. I am keen at the moment to have the surgery, I am cutting back on the sugars and fats in my diet and trying to eat more fruit. I am starting with breakfast and next week will include lunch and then dinner when I get back from a short holiday to Morocco. I am trying to drink less alcohol but I sort of feel that my partner is not being very helpful when he says he is going to carry on just as before.

So wish me luck, this is the first day of the rest of my life, hopefully a slimmer, healthier life.

Hi, Louise & welcome to the forum. While it would really help to have the support of your partner, you are doing this for yourself & only you can do it. The sense of achievement as you start to lose weight will spur you on. There is no better motivator! You can do this. Start now. Getting help to change your thinking (Cognitive behavioural therapy) should really help. I hope you will be able to do this without having surgery. We will be here to support you along the way. Cheers, Cate.
